Possibly silly question - what to wear to first scan?

I've got my 12 week scan next Tuesday. What's the best thing to wear?

I'm presuming that a dress would be silly (don't fancy getting completely nekkid for the sonographer Wink).

yes either top and trousers or top and skirt preferably with simple fastening ie can just be pulled up/down. Good luck!

FattyMcChubster · 19/03/2013 21:31

As long as you can get your belly out, esp lower abdomen, it doesn't really matter. Think I wore leggings and top.

TheThinksYouCanThink · 19/03/2013 21:31

Trousers/skirt and top, you will need to roll top up and unbutton trousers/skirt so that they can scan quite low down.

MortifiedAdams · 19/03/2013 21:32

Trousers and top, trousers you can oull down a bit and that you dont mind getting a bit of the gel on. Top that is easy to pull up tk under boobs.

Comfy as youll be fit to burst with pee due to the amount of water you need to drink.

Id go for leggings and a stretchy tshirt and chuck a cardie over.

DaveMccave · 19/03/2013 21:36

It's not a silly question :) dress would be embarrassing yes! Fine if you wear leggings underneath though. Just something you can pull up. I wear a long tshirt dress/top. They tuck blue roll into your waistband and pull your waistband down pretty low, so if you're a paranoid hairy beast in pregnancy like me you may want to trim your pubic line!

HavingALittleFaithBaby · 19/03/2013 21:40

I did put decent knickers on! The sonographer made me Shock by saying You'd be surprised by how many women don't bother with knickers..I see all sorts! Grin

andadietcoke · 19/03/2013 21:40

And if they're taking bloods make sure you can get your arm in and out easily (eg vest top or tshirt and cardigan). I wore possibly the worst top - tunic thing with built in vest thing and got all tangled up!

GettingObsessive · 20/03/2013 07:41

Thank you. Yes they are taking bloods. Will be at work immediately before and after, so leggings are out Smile.

Trousers and a short sleeved top it is.

Oh dear - I often wear a dress for mine! I have to fit in around work so have had a few scans in office attire. It's nit too bad really - I've still got tights on so just roll the bottom of the dress up over my tum - top bit covers top of me and knickers and tights save any embarrassment!

cocktailhour · 20/03/2013 12:03

I was going to say dress too- especially something not too fitted. Up it goes, down go tights- sorted! Also, I almost fainted in my first scan as the room was airless and very warm so do consider layering carefully! Hope it's magical!

BraveLilBear · 20/03/2013 17:35

How exciting! Yes to separates and to some lady-garden trimmery beforehand - especially for 12 weeks. Was surprised how low down they needed to go but glad I'd gone prepared. Also, a friend of mine had to have an internal scan as they couldn't see properly through the tum. It's uncommon, but a pre-date tidy up will alleviate any embarrassment...

Hope it goes great Smile

worsestershiresauce · 20/03/2013 17:57

I wouldn't get too paranoid about your lady gardens - they won't care, and will have seen far worse. By the time you get to late pregnancy you won't be able to see your lady garden to tidy it, so they are used to seeing rather rampant bushes.

snickersnacker · 20/03/2013 18:18

Yep - separates and possibly a skirt if internal scans are routine at your hospital.
