my hair is an absolute state at the moment, inch long mousy roots and the rest of its a faded red

REALLY need to do it again but no idea if you are supposed to or not Confused

as during my last pg's i didn't have dyed hair so never needed to

a quick google reveals it is probably ok....but also wanted to see what people thought on here

It's fine - think NHS say that women may 'prefer' not to dye in first trimester. Not particularly helpful and no idea what the evidence base is re: 1st tri. I'm waiting until 12 weeks, then will be back to dyeing every 6 weeks.

It's up to you! I've not dyed mine but I was thinking of growing out my too blonde highlights before I found out I was pg last August. It's more to do with possible allergic reaction/sensitivity than any harm to the baby.

I do and it's never been a problem, I think it's bleaching hair that's the problem because of the ammonia.

I had my highlights redone when I was 6 weeks pregnant and I think it's fine. Hairdresser said highlights are ok because the dye doesn't touch the scalp but she wanted to do a patch test first because you can develop allergies when you're pregnant.

I plan on having mine done after 12 week mark (counting down the days!!) the advice I got from my hair dresser friend is wait till after 12 weeks. then do a skin test for definite as the new hormones in ur body can make u have a bad reaction to something you've always found fine. also good idea to do a strand test as the colour can come out different to normal. make sure you do it in a well ventilated room. I'm just going to have some foils so it doesn't actually touch my skin. but in general I think its fine and if you're like me will be worth not risking ur happiness having rubbish looking hair!! Well I hope it's ok cause it's what I did 2 days before my bfp!

MoodyDidIt · 17/03/2013 19:15

Could just pop a toner or crazy colour style dye in for the time being to lift the faded red and tide you over until you go get your roots done. Just make sure you have a patch test done in the hairdressers and strand test as stated above - its the hormones that can mess with the colours/reactions and additionally be prepared for it not to last as well as normal as sometimes your hormones can also affect how well your hair retains colour xx

  • patch test/strand test for roots x

It's fine. I even asked my midwife to make sure and she looked at me like i was bonkers! She jen reassured me it woldn't do any harm but might not take as well as before...it seems ok though.
