False positive???

Hi
I have just recently done a pregnancy test (clear blue digital) and it said pregnant 1-2 weeks. However when the doctor did one it showed negative. I know its early and the doctor says it may be too soon to show on theirs as they aren't as sensitive.
But I am now very worried that it could have been a false positive?!?!?
Had anyone else ever had this happen to them? I'm so scared to be happy incase its not real! But I want to be happy because I want this so much.
Please help me and advise me xx

You don't get false positives, a positive is a positive.

Congratulations Flowers

I didn't think false positives were possible?

pansyflimflam · 13/03/2013 17:55

Wonderful news, congratulations xxxxxx

I didn't think they were but have been looking on Internet a few people said they had had false positives but can't find anything after 2007. So don't know if the tests have been improved. I'm just so scared to be happy as we already had 2 miscarriages and this one wasn't planned but is a lovely surprise and our first baby x

You can't get a false positive with modern tests, only false negatives. Looks like you're pg!

I had a false positive in 2002 on a test taken at the doctors. The doctor swore it wasn't possible, but I definitely was't pregnant. I was on the pill and all the symptoms I went to the doctors with, were caused by an ovarian cyst. I was told later that it might have been the pill or the cyst interfering with my hormones.

...So it's not impossible, but it is very very rare. If you think you've got pregnancy symptoms, it's pretty unlikely that your test was false, but not totally impossible.

It's not impossible but very rare. Can sometimes be a chemical pregnancy too as we are now able to test so early. I had a false positive/chemical pregnancy last year so it does happen but fingers crossed its a true positive for you. Test again in a couple of days. Also cb with conception indicator isn't most accurate, try a different test like first response you don't need as much hcg to get a positive.

Oh wow I'm worried again now!! Will do another test in a couple of days to be sure. X

Can I just ask your false positives, were they with the new digital tests? I have been on a few forums now and everyone is saying u can get false ones with the line tests as the lines can appear to be there but on the digital ones u can't get a false positive only a false negative because they haven't picked up the hormone?!?!?!?

I'm so confused and worried and my husband just keeps telling me I'm paranoid over nothing. 😔

I had a similar experience - 2 positives with home tests the day before my period was due. Saw dr next day; he wasn't going to bother with a test but I had done a sample and specifically asked. Two false negatives with dr, who referred me for a blood test but dismissed my query that my urine might be too dilute. Got home, took another home test an hour later and got a third positive. Blood test confirmed two weeks later.

I am convinced that the dr's test strips were significantly less sensitive than my Superdrug home tests (non digital).

Thank you glad to hear its not just me. I just can't settle. Think it is because of what's happened with miscarriages in the past I don't want to allow myself to be excited and think its real x
