Changing units/dressers - wrong way round?

Hi,

Is it just me, or does anyone feel the same - why are changing units/dressers the wrong way round? What I mean is, you have to stand at the end of it to use it? Isn't that awkward? Or not really? I haven't actually tried one, just looking into buying one ...

Thanks Confused

I had this one www.mothercare.com/Mothercare-Open-Dresser---Natural-Beech/975006,default,pd.html and you stand in front of the drawer (long side) to change. It was absolutely fine, everything in reach, you just stand to the side of the baby rather than at the end which tbh I actually preferred.
The end on style ones that go on cot tops felt like I was stretching to reach stuff which as I'm tiny made changing nigh on impossible.

We never had a changing unit, just used an ikea chest of drawers with a changing mat on top, I also prefer changing from the side.

Changing a nappy from the business end is a risky procedure with a newborn! Boys wee like fountains and either sex is capable of explosive poo that can travel quite a distance unless it hits something, like an unsuspecting new mother for example. Sideways is safer!

I wouldn't bother with a changing unit of any kind. Just use a mat on the floor (no rolling off that from a height!) and have a basket with wipes, bags and nappies in.
