As above, any suggestions for getting it going naturally? Waters gushed at 6:15 this morning, 2.5 weeks early. :) hospital happy with everything so have sent me home.

Have you got a birthing ball/gym ball? Bouncing on that might get things going?

phoenixrose314 · 13/03/2013 12:26

Just be upright as much as possible to allow gravity to do its thing!! Go for a long walk, have a hot shower, bounce on a birthing ball, play on the Wii...

Good luck!!

Can't vouch for it myself (still 5 weeks to go until my first is due), but friends who have been overdue have sworn by having sex to bring the baby on.
It makes sense as you release the same hormone you do during birth.
Time to buckle up and 'take one for the team' if you're bored of waiting.

Greywacke · 13/03/2013 12:30

Mine went and 9 hours later contractions started. I went for a walk to try and get things going...would also agree gym ball is good!

Good luck

leniwhite · 13/03/2013 12:31

I didn't think you could have sex after the waters go, because of infection risk?

Greywacke · 13/03/2013 12:31

And I am sure the hospital has told you but no sex now your waters have gone!

catlady1 · 13/03/2013 12:32

Simian I think the advice is to not have sex if your waters have broken because of the risk of infection.

Try walking, birthing ball etc like other have said. Have the hospital told you to go back if you haven't started by a certain time?

happy2bhomely · 13/03/2013 12:33

I was told no sex if waters go-risk of infection.

Go for a walk and then try and rest. You are going to need all the energy you have! Good luck.

Both my waters with both ds's went early with no contractions. With ds1 I got on birthing ball and a few hours later contractions started. With ds2 I walked for miles, went on birthing ball they started (very little not very painful) and stopped then started, stopped, etc. Till they ended up inducing me, then ended in emcs three days later.
Good luck op. There's not much you can do.

Mama1980 · 13/03/2013 12:46

Hi ratbag Grin just wanted to say good luck and I hope things get moving soon. I just asked the nurse and she also said no sex if your waters have gone is the usual recommendation.

I walked miles and in the end took homeopathic cauphyllum. Surprisingly seemed to work. I've stocked up for this time in case waters break early again. Good Luck!

Simian0 · 13/03/2013 12:58

Oops ok, sorry, ignore my advice then!

Damn, was hoping to use that excuse myself nearer the time. ;-)

ratbagcatbag · 13/03/2013 13:07

Haha. As I'm leaking fluid everywhere I'm not sure DH would fancy it anyway. Ok first things first, bounce on ball whilst watching twilight DVD I've just bought. Then walks up and down stairs if that fails. :) will keep you all posted.
They've said call at 7am tomorrow if no contractions and they will book me in to induce me. So not organised right now. :)

Same thing happened with me, both times. I walked for miles and nothing happened; in the end I was induced. First time took 57 hours, second time 44 hours after waters breaking. So you may have to settle in for a long haul.

My only advice is to keep eating and drinking well. Once you go into proper labour, particularly if you are in hospital, you may not have time/inclination to eat much. The first time around I was ravenous after eventually giving birth and there was nothing to eat apart from a curly cheese sandwich. Second time around I was better prepared and had some snacks in my labour bag.

Hope it all goes well for you!

chickabilla · 13/03/2013 14:03

My waters went at 35+5 and they told me about 90% of women went into labour within 48 hours. Mine started 36 hours later and I had done very little except sit in a hospital bed and worry! Dd was born at exactly 36 weeks

dramajustfollowsme · 13/03/2013 14:11

My waters went at 34 weeks but labour didn't start until 36 weeks. Longest 2 weeks of my life. Totally worth the wait though! Good luck!
