bleeding in pregnancy = risk of post partum bleeding?

Grateful for advice. I had some bleeding at 29 weeks. Was taken into hospital overnight but then discharged without getting to the bottom of what was bleeding why. Touch wood, there's been no repeat. However, when discussing birth options with the hospital, the doctor said that the bleeding in pregnancy meant that there was a slightly higher risk of post-partum (?) bleeding after the birth and that I would need to be given something to prevent that.

Does anyone know what the doctor was referring to? why would I potentially bleed more, where from and what would be given to me post-birth to prevent this?

Not one that I've heard of before. I didn't bleed in pregnancy but had quite a big post partum haemorrhage after ds1. Not sure what they could give you either. Sorry not to be of more help. Maybe others will know more.

I did bleed , stayed in hospital for a few days but haven't been told anything about post-partum bleeding. It happened in two pregancies.
Therefore, I think your doctor is the person to ask these questions.

I had a bleed at about 22 wks with DS -the cause was never really identified and there certainly wasn't any mention of post-partum bleeding being more likely. Its not a link I've heard of before.

DS's birth was straightforward and no problems with bleeding.

At 33 weeks I too had a bleed. I went into hospital and was monitored for a few hours. The bleeding stopped and they let me go.
There was no explanation, no repeat bleed and everything was ok after delivery.
I was never told of any increased risk of post-partum bleeding.

Its helpful to hear from others - thanks. I'll ask again but not due to have another checkup with the hospital until right at the end, when the whole question may have been overtaken by labour anyway. Not sure they always check your notes either so wanted to have a bit of knowledge myself. Definitely wasn't a placenta problem (as far as they can ever be definite :)).
