Is this trapped wind? How do I get rid of it

I'm 5 months pregnant and have had a stitch like pain in my left side for about 3 days.

Baby doing lots of movement and have been to the toilet lots, but can't get rid of this pain.

Is it charcoal tablets you are supposed to take?

Well I can't tell you if it is trapped wind as it sounds slightly different to my current battle with the bloat but I was advised to try the following:

  • Mint Tea
  • Get down on all fours with chest to floor & bum up
  • Bicarbonate of Soda (1tsp) mixed with warm water
  • Tummy rubs
  • Walk about

Am quite desperate now so am pretty much combining them all, nothing seems to prevent it but I rec they help it pass quicker so see which work for you.

Have been told Windeze & Rennes are ok, wanted to avoid tablets but they're next on the list.

Good luck!!

Excellent will try all of these things bar the mint tea, as I don't do hot drinks.

Will see what works, it is really sore, its the only thing i can think it is. hope things work for you as well.

I don't do hot drinks either (no not even hot chocolate as I'm sure you're always asked too!) but I got a pukka mixed mint one from Sainsburys that I actually really liked with a couple of sugars. An alternative could be some peppermint cordial in warm water or a few drops of the peppermint that you get in baking sections again in warm water.

I'm pushing that a bit as out of everything it seems to work the best, plus when you've been doubled over for an hr you'll try anything!

It's awful isn't it, seems to keep me awake from 3am on que every night now - hence I'm harnessing the power of them all combined!

If you discover anything new that works make sure you report back Smile

I think I may have to drive to sainsburys, if that works the best.

I have so far tried the all fours cat pose thing, which works for many things, as I had to do it as the baby must have been on a nerve or something and my back went and my right leg. But will investigate other things and report. Grin

I'm not sure if peppermint cordial has the same effect as tea but it might be worth a try. I lived off peppermint tea and regular windeez tablets (they are fine in pregnancy) for the first 8 weeks

LittleBallOfFur · 12/03/2013 19:39

Is the pain higher up, sort of just under your rib cage?

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 12/03/2013 19:49

It's kinda near my hip bone. What would it mean if it was at my ribs?

Ah ok. No I just asked as I had a stitch like pain near the top of my bump throughout my pregnancy, and my midwife said it was everything getting squished. If its lower down not sure, could be ligaments stretching or trapped wind like you say. Have you mentioned it to your midwife?

I found pregnancy yoga was great for those aches and pains though!

yellowsnownoteatwillyou · 12/03/2013 20:28

If its still the same tomorrow I will call and ask them, the only thing I can think it is, is trapped wind or the round ligament pain.

I've just got used to not throwing up as much, such a delight being pregnant.

Just had to send DP to the shops after a particularly crippling episode & would now like to change my answer to Rennies Rennies Rennies - defo my new front runner!

cogitosum · 12/03/2013 21:07

I have exactly the same thing. In fact I told dh it felt like a stick yesterday. I thought round ligament pain. I had a scan yesterday (had to repeat the 20 week one) and all was fine so doesn't seem to be anything up worry about.

Stitch even.
