Anyone had scan at 5 weeks...

...and there's been nothing visible?

I'm 5+3, I think, second pregnancy, and went to EPU this morning for scan as have had some pain in left side for a couple of days. But they couldn't see anything, no sac, nothing. Has this happened to anyone else? They took blood and I will go back in two days for another blood test to monitor hcg levels. Am a bit worried

• was expecting to at least be able to come away knowing whether or not it was in the right place. Would like to hear others' experience and if/when you were able to see the pregnancy on ultrasound?

I had a scan at 5 weeks and they could see nothing, they did an internal scan then could see the sac and just a tiny dot. Don't think they could see the heartbeat at that stage, saw it a week later (I had food poisoning and bleeding,so was given extra scans)

Did they offer you another scan? Do your pregnancy tests show positive?

This was an internal scan as well. I did pregnancy test last Saturday, and another on Sunday (just to check!) - both were positive. They said at EPU that it might just be too early to see anything, so am keeping fingers crossed it's just that. No bleeding as yet.

Sorry, yes they said they'd do another scan in two weeks, if the hcg levels were rising as they should be

Maybe you ovulated later than you think so you may not be as far along as you think?

That's possible as have a 10 month old so only recently stopped breastfeeding, cycles all over place etc. Anyone else had a scan like this, seen nothing then gone on to have normal pregnancy? Am really worried now.

I had a scan at 5 weeks (just like in your case they saw nothing) but it was too early as my HCG level was just over 500iu/l - it's actually very unlikely to see anything if HCG hasn't reached 2000.
So just 4 days later I had to do another scan (grrr!) but at least it was confirmed it wasn't an ectopic.

Yes, this happened to me and when I went back 2 weeks later there was a heartbeat

And I'm now 6 months!

I think it's always touch and go wether they see anything at that gestation. Try to stay positive x

Not at 5 weeks, but I did have one at 4+4 and there was nothing to see. If you're out by just a couple of days then it can make a difference at that stage. My non existent speck is now a 16wo dd who is fast asleep on my tummy.

Thanks so much for your replies, just knowing a couple of people have had the same makes a lot of difference. Fingers crossed the hormones are doing the right thing when I blood test again on Thursday.

I had a scan at 5 weeks and they couldn't see anything (suspected ectopic) but sac was visible a week later.

I had a tiny dark dot at 4+6 and then the sac & yolk sac a week later. Was told they expect heart beat from 6 weeks ish. Sady that time for me didn't work out. This time, first scan at 8 weeks found me nearly 2 weeks behind where I think I should have been, so if they are right I had HB at 6 weeks. 2 weeks later (their 8 week) it looked like a jelly baby. 12 week scan tomorrow! (again - its been 14 since LMP!) sometimes I guess we OV late or it takes a while to implant?
