38 weeks pregnant now & have been having problems with my own health through out pregnancy. I've got a constant urine infection that when I go to my midwife every 2 weeks she picks up on and says exactly the same thing "we'll send off a sample & give you some antibiotics. When the sample comes back we'll see what it's sensitive too and if it hasn't cleared will try you on some different antibiotics" this goes on EVERY 2WEEKS!! Only I never hear back when the sample comes back and when I ring they won't tell me they say I need to make a telephone appointment with a dr which can take up to a week there for I find myself back at square one with the midwife telling me the same thing every time I go in!! I in know its dangerous to baby to have a uti go untreated I just feel I'm not getting the help I need with drs and midwives.. WHAT DO I DO?! :( :( :(

Oh gosh, you poor thing. If I were you I'd either phone the midwife today and say exactly what you have said on here and tell her you want it resolved TODAY or I'd go down to my GP's surgery and tell them you need an emergency appointment and I wouldn't move until they listened to me.

I had a UTI in late pregnancy and went through the same rigmarole as you. I went down the insisting on seeing a GP route and he was brilliant. By the time I saw him, I was in severe pain and having mild contractions brought on by the UTI.

I would make an appointment with the doctor and get an appropriate antibiotic.

Have you explained the situation to your midwife, and asked her what she thinks? Are you taking the antibiotics or won't she prescribe them until the sample comes back, and are you trying to treat it yourself with tons of water and cranberry juice?

Why didn't you make an appointment to see the Dr the first time the receptionist told you that?

goodygumdrops · 12/03/2013 09:36

Just make an appointment to see the doctor it doesn't matter. The risk is that you can go in to labour but as you are 38 weeks that isn't overly worrying. You do need it treated though. I have never come across a gp surgery that doesn't have a time you can phone for test results how odd. You could also phone the day assessment unit at the hospital for your result as they should have a copy too.

I have made appointments after appointments with the gp after I was told the first time and he gives me the same antibiotic every time even after telling him that I've taken that anti biotic before and it hasn't cleared it up he then sends off a sample and the bloody circle starts again. I have a midwife appointment today but she isn't qualified to prescribe medication so I have to wait until tomorrow to see the gp to get the antibiotic.
My midwife sees that many ladies every time I go in to see her it's like the first appointment as if she doesn't remember anything discussed previously even after reading my notes! I do everything they tell me to do but the UTI doesn't seem to go away.
I feel like I'm just having medication forced at me without real knowledge as to wether or not its going to work against the infection. They've given me 2 different antibiotics to take (not at the same time) and neither seems to have worked.

It may be hard for you but you are going to have to get tough. Do not let them fob you off. This is the ONLY thing you can do to sort this situation, they sound spectacularly crap but you are going to have to speak up.

Rockchick1984 · 12/03/2013 10:01

I think if you're going around in circles like that, you need to speak to the practice manager and explain that it's not getting resolved.
