If you've had 2 or more c sections how long between each one? Would I be mad to consider ttc?

I'm 33 and my ds is 5 weeks; I'm not quite as broody as I was in the days following his birth but I know I definitely want more children if possible.

I had a section with my ds and I would be having a csection if possible for the next baby, would really want this.

How long did you have between csections? Would it be madness to consider ttc around christmas? So many people have bigger age gaps but I would love to have my family complete by 35 if I was able to.

After my 1st c-section, doc said to leave it at least 6 months before ttc to allow everything to heal properly before it starts to stretch & grow again.

Might x-post here as lost my post just after typing it so apologies if so. I had 2 elective CSs 17.5 months apart and recovered really quickly although I was in my late 30s and overweight. Consultant said at the time that if I was planning a 3rd that she'd recommend another section as I was 'textbook'. Mine were elective but a good friend had an emergency and an elective with the same gap so I don't think that makes any difference. From a 'now I've got them' POV, I think a small gap works really well, my DS and DD are really close. However I do think you should consider your doc's advice or at least seek another medical opinion because I don't think you are certain to get a c-section just because you want one, if the docs think it's safer for you to have a natural birth you can't insist that they section you (in this area anyway).

I've had 3 sections. 1st at 22, 2nd at 24 and 3rd at 30. No problems at all.

I don't think it would be madness, but I would (and did) give myself a clear year before TTC.

Even at that my second pregnancy following so closely on from my first and being a big baby (10lb 3oz) left me with bad diastasis recti.

Just about to have my 3rd section 23 months after my second which was 18.5 months after the first,so conceived 10 months after 1st section and 15 months after 2nd. My small age gap between DS1 &DS2 is great(now!) ,hard work at the beginning but no regrets.

I'd give yourself a year. I happened to interview one of the leading obstetricians at the Royal College after having my DD1 four years ago - for an article on post natal fitness. He told me to give it at least a year before getting pregnant after a C S. in the end I waited 4 years to get pg again. If I'd been younger I would happily wait another 4 years and jabs a DC3. Am having ELCS this time round and had EMCS with no 1.

I waited a year before ttc.
DD2 born 9 months later by CS.
No real probs, (ie just general healing Grin)

noblegiraffe · 10/03/2013 10:55

I was told you need at least a year between sections as there is a risk of the scar rupturing, so the first one needs to be properly healed.
