I am 5 weeks pregnant and went to my GP last week who did nothing but take by blood pressure and give me the number of the local children's centre. The appointment with the midwife isn't until during Week 11. I am seriously struggling to understand what the NHS offers in my area (Worcester), what I can get privately and whether it is worth it. E.g. should I be having a blood and urine test NOW so that I can be changing my diet/taking supplements to counterbalance any deficiencies? Won't week 11 be way too late? What does the midwife do at that "booking appointment" anyway? Do they take samples?

Can anyone help?

I had a similar experience in Sutton.
i went at 3 weeks+ Very underwhelming, GP just took my BP and said I will get confirmation of MW appointment in the post.
I Did and first mw appointment is week 11, now next week but its been a long wait. Relied on nhs website and mumsnet Smile to get tips on what to do, not to do etc.

Make sure you take your folic acid, vitamins like someone said, there is an NHS helpline to call I think so try may be able to put your mind at rest.
