Went to see my MW today and routine checks show than littlen is measuring small for dates. I am 30+6 and measuring 27, the same that i was measuring near 4 weeks ago when i was actually 27weeks!!!!

I didnt actually find out i was preg until i was 18weeks gone and i have been continuously sick until recently, however, when 27weeks my MW assured me that the sickness was having no negative effect on littlen so not to worry, now i find out that she hasnt grown in four weeks and i am really starting to worry.....

I have been booked to have a scan first thing tomorrow morning and i have been told to monitor littlens movements throughout the night tonight and should they become less i am to ring delivery suite straight a way!!!!!!! Her movements have been fine though and have never concerned me, until tonight but i think this is just paranoier.... she is kicking a way as i type this.......

I have felt alot of pressure these past couple of days, down below, and again i thought nothing of it..... i forgot to mention this to my midwife today but will do so tomorrow when at the hospital....... i have been told that if she is measuring small and continues to do so they will bring her delivery forward..... i am pushing for a section as it is as i had an awful birth with my son, now 16moths old, which ended in having an emergency c-section anyway......he was 13days late and weighed 6lb 11oz

i hope i am worrying for no reason but i just dont know what to think..... has anyone else been through this and could anyone tell me what to expect?

Sorry you are having such a worrying time of it. Firstly, using a measuring tape is a pretty crude way of measuring a baby's size. Babies move around, bellies change shape, everyone's different. It could well be that things are fine. The scan tomorrow will give a much more accurate assessment. If (big if!) the baby is indeed small for dates then the doctor may analyse placental function. If there are signs of a problem then they will monitor you closely and regularly weigh up whether it's best for baby to stay in or come out. Scary and not ideal but the positives would be that a) the docs can take a view on precisely the best time to deliver and b) in the neonatal world babies born at 31 weeks (and over!) have great outcomes. Good luck for tomorrow.

My "sfds" baby is 15, a strapoing adult size 12 and talker than me!

She was 6lb 5oz a week early (naturally the day she was to be induced). No one fussed about DD2 and sge was the same size as your DS a day or do early.

Good luck and try not to worry, some of us just don't have very big babies.

taller,

My small for dates bump was in fact a perfectly fine size baby, just being awkward and lying sideways so that my bump measured small.

thankyou for your comments, not long now and we will find out...... i am worried i dont have a lot of fluid surrounding her as you can feel every limb, bottom and head each time she moves, it is as if there is only tracing paper skin between me and her...... wierd i know but dont know how else to explain it really....... i fear i may have been slowly leaking water and i have also, embarassingly, been getting a very thick, snotty lie discharge...... nothing infectious as it doesnt actually have a smell to it....... i have been too embarassed to tell this to my MW but starting to think maybe i should have been doing........ this has only been happening the past couple of weeks though....... time will tell though i suppose, not long now and not much time to worry about things as i need to get my son ready for our lovely day out at the hospital....... thanks again guys..... will post again this afternoon as to what has been going on xx

My midwife sent me for a scan when I was 31 weeks as I was also measuring 27cm. All was fine. Baby was breech and I think it's lying quite far back behind an anterior placenta. Some people do just have small bumps. Hopefully this is the case for you. Best of luck.

iheartshoes · 08/03/2013 08:15

Hope your scan goes well today . Just wanted to say my friend was told all throughout her preg she was measuring small for dates, well she had just given birth to a gorgeous bouncing 7lb5oz girl ' must have just been the way she was carrying her she had a teeny bump but perfectly average sized baby ! Try not to stress xx

sianilovesbeingamummy · 08/03/2013 22:29

Stress over...... littlen is fine.... she is measuring small but not worryingly so...... they will monitor her growth a little closer to make sure all goes well but no need to have any more scans unless growth appears to stop...... i myself have only gained 6lbs since xmas and i am not a very big person..... i am only 5ft2 and weight 8.5st at 31weeks preg...... they would expect me to have put more weight on but with the continuous sickness they are not surprised that i havent....... i have the right amount of fluid and also an anterior placenta, whatever that means.... thanks again for all your comments xxx

Great news! Hope you can relax now :-)

MahnaMahna · 09/03/2013 12:28

I measured 33 weeks when DD was born at 39 weeks. I was sent for scans and told there was too much fluid around her in the week before she was born. I fully expected a tiny baby to come out... she was 7lbs 4oz! I think she had just tucked herself up into a nice little ball in there.

My placenta was anterior too (which means at the front). I have a theory that this helps them to stay tucked up inside :)

Adreamz · 09/03/2013 15:01

I measured small and was constantly monitored. They wanted me to bein induced on due date if she hadn't come. I started contraction and they gave me a pessary to assist. She was only 5ibs6 but perfect in every way. She was always a small grower when born too but she is perfect still and is now 18 months xx

Great news, good luck and hope the rest of your PG goes smoothly.

lumpybumps · 09/03/2013 15:10

Glad alls ok, when preg with DD they had me prepared for a big huge monster, at 36 weeks they told me she was already 8lb and I had to have extra scans as she was so huge- I was given a c section at 39 weeks and out came a beautifully perfect 7lb 1 baby. All the clothes I had brought in were massive on her, I was expecting a big 12lb baby!
