I'm 13 weeks pregnant (my first) and have been getting migraine after migraine and it's quite literally doing my head in! I've had them since I was a kid but would only get them once a year at the very most. I've been getting them once a week since becoming pregnant. I get the whole deal; the blind spots, flashing lights, sensitivity to light and sound and sometimes vomiting. I take a couple of paracetemols when I feel one coming on and it takes the edge off but they're still debilitating and it's interefering with my life. Has anyone experienced this and did it get better as pregnancy progressed? Any tips or advice would be mega appreciated! xx

I had the same thing but very happy to report they stopped after 14 wks until after the birth. I very nearly ended up terminating I was so ill but thank god I didn't (peers at treasured 13 yr old DS on his x box)

I got my first migraine since being pregnant yesterday. Practically blind for 4 hours and then pain. I still had the "hangover" this morning so it was an unusually severe one for me Sad.

I'm really hoping this was a one off as I'm 35 weeks!

I've only been getting migraines for the last 2 or 3 years and they're usually tied in with my cycle, often visual only without the pain.

I phoned the maternity assessment unit in case it was blood pressure related, but they weren't concerned and said just take paracetamol and lie in the dark as much as possible.

Go to your doctor. You are allowed to take co-dydramol which I find is much more effective. My GP also gave me some stemetil which is ok to take if you get nausea/vomiting with migraine even in early pregnancy. Unfortunately you can't take other medications but after you have the baby get some sumatriptan- it's for migraine with aura which it sounds like you have. You take it when your vision/hearing starts to go funny just before migraine and it stops it becoming so severe (if taken soon enough it can even stop the pain).
Good luck!

Co-dydramol, duh. Where does iPhone come up with these auto-corrects?
