Midwife help

Hi there,

I'm 34+3 with my first baby and I'm slightly concerned about the physical care I'm receiving from my midwife. Is it normal to have reached this stage without the midwife having placed a hand on your tummy? She's measured me with a tape and recorded details but that's it.

I've asked her to point out where baby's bottom is etc, but she mutters something about not needing to do that yet. Now I'm 34 weeks, I felt the baby's head engage (or what I thought must be engagement as she hasn't mentioned anything about this) and I'm worried that she still hasn't so much as placed a finger on me. Is this normal?! My friend's midwife would routinely touch her tummy and give her a detailed account of where baby was lying and what she could feel.

I've had a very easy pregnancy and have been very laid back about it - but I'm worried that our 10 minute consultations every three weeks aren't really sufficient?

Sorry if this is long!

She doesn't really have to palpate for position until 37 weeks - as that's when it becomes important to know .

But I think she's being a bit harsh - it's nice to know which way baby is lying!

Thank you for the advice. Good to know I'm not being over-sensitive!
