Hi sorry not a pregnancy matter but rather buying question!

Do I need a new cot mattress for dc2? Dc1 used it for approx 1.5 years. Then used by niece on visits over last 3 years (say 10 occasions) .

I think advice may have changed re link to SIDS, but can't find much online.

I don't object to buying another one - I just don't like waste or unnecessary spending!

I read somewhere (can't remember where but it was within the last couple of days) that it's ok to reuse a mattress as long as its got a waterproof cover and has only been kept in a room rather than stored away somewhere. There's a part of me that seems to think it said it should only be used within 2 years but that may have been someone's opinion rather than the guidelines!

Personally I'm buying a new one - for the sake of £50 or so I don't feel it's worth the worry!

We will get another cot mattress as its pretty big and thick and has been in the loft. But we are re using the moses basket mattress as it has a wipe clean plastic cover and then machine washable cover on top of that so I figure I can clean it properly (has also been in the loft for about 4 yrs). Am a bit worried now though!
