Speculum exam of cervix while pregnant - safe? Need fairly urgent reassurance

I'm on my way to EPU as have had weird discharge and started to get pains in lower abdomen. I resisted a speculum exam yesterday as im still v anxious after threatened miscarriage but I think they're going to have to have a look at my cervix today. Is this safe to do in pregnancy with a speculum? I have had a cone biopsy so part of cervix removed but it was looking fine at a transvaginal scan about 10 days ago. I'm 14 weeks

I believe its totally safe. I had about 4 done last weekend at 24 weeks. Even with the speculum they couldn't get anywhere near the cervix (hence the 4 times). I believe they are routine in pregnancy.

So sorry you are going through this Thanks

I had them every 6 weeks or so when pregnant, it shouldn't do anything to compromise the pregnancy

What on earth are they for???

Given that you can have sex while pregnant, I can't see how a speculum exam would be a problem.

Absolutely fine. Far more comfy than a manual VE.
