Missed my 16 week antenatal appointment with midwife?

Hey everyone.

Well, I had my 12 week scan in January and the people at the clinic I went to said I need to book my 16 week appointment with my midwife. However. I went away on a family emergency who live in Ireland for a few weeks.
I've come back and remembered I hadn't had my 16 week appointment.
I'm now 19 weeks tomorrow and have my 20 week scan coming up March 11th

Have I missed out/should I be worried? I feel like i've missed something important and panicking a little. This is my first baby and I haven't met my midwife! Just know her name and number.

I was going to phone her but I feel sort of ...scared? haha! I probably won't be able to see her until 23 weeks now an that's fine. But can't help feel a little worried.

Also, to make an appointment with your midwife, do you phone her directly or do you do it through the hospital?

Hi. Not sure I can be of much help I'm afraid, as my midwife has booked all my appointments in person. however, just to let you know, I was in and out in 5 mins for the 16 week appt - just tested urine and BP and weighed me. Only listened to the heartbeat as I begged!

I would just call and be honest with them - I saw mine the day after my 20 week scan too, so they might be able to get you in then to save you having to wait too long.

Good luck, and don't be scared!

Hi lydia,

I would just call to check in and see what the midwife thinks. She may ask you to just come in and drop a urine sample in or just tell you its fine to wait till your next appointment.

I think its better to call to show that you are proactive about your care. It might cause them to worry about you and how you are coping with the pregnancy if you miss an appointment and then don't even call.

Good luck!

My 16 week appt was done at about 18 weeks and they don't do much, just blood pressure and a wee test.

The 28 week one was more important as they took bloods.

To book mine I do it at the doctors reception.

At my 16 week appointment my MW checked my BP, I heard baby's heartbeat and she told me to ring my hospital to book my 2nd scan earlier as I would be 24 weeks rather than 20 so they couldn't perform it as baby would be too big so I am very glad I went.

You should be able to ring up and get an appointment if you want one however you have a scan soon so I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I missed mine due to flu and couldn't get another one as she was fully booked for weeks. Just saw the doctor instead and they did exactly the same thing... Checked urine, blood pressure and listened to heart beat.

I missed mine - didn't meet my mw til 21/40. It was fine but I remember feeling a bit stressy at the time!

Thanks everyone for your answers. I stopped being wimpy and rang her. She's actually lovely. She tried to get an appointment with me next week but she's fully booked, so i'm having my scan next week and seeing her at 25 weeks instead.

:)
