Apologies if the title sounds a little drastic, my plight is not drastic but I was unsure where to post my thread and then struggled to think of a title!
my MIL has handed down a wicker crib for us to use when baby T arrives. it needs a little primping but is a sturday traditional crib.

I can find a new matress very easily but wandering if anyone had any tips on where I might find bumpers/covers for the crib. It has quite wide gaps between the weave so want to make sure spub's tiny fingers and toes are safe!

Thank you for any advice, greatly appreciated for this first time mummy!

xx

Any chances you could link us a photo to crib so we know what size etc to recommend? You can find some lovely stuff second hand on Ebay xx

Try John lewis

Umm. Bumpers are a SIDS risk.

Elkieb · 26/02/2013 15:43

I used a cot sheet tucked under the mattress and over the sides of the moses basket IYSWIM? Ours had seen better days but worked well.

Kateliztmum2be · 28/02/2013 14:02

this is the problem, I've not actually seen the crib itself yet! its with family down south (i'm oop north!)

MIL is very keen on us using said crib, that said MIL is actually quite opinionated about alot of things, dont even get me started on the nappy debate! :-)

I am aware the bumper/SIDS link but the crib (as discribed) has a pretty wide weave and so worrying about little spud's fingers getting caught up!

Thank you everyone for you advice so far!

xx

That's funny my MIL had exactly the same idea and was very keen to hand down the moses basket bought for her first DD back in 1974. When the thing came out of the loft I think even MIL was taken aback it looked like something you'd keep by the stove to put logs in! As you describe it was very loose weave and it was round rather than oval. As a compromise I've said we'll use it for the baby's linens. We drew a blank when it came to finding something to line it with.

ZuleikaD · 28/02/2013 18:36

I refused point blank to have a handmedown crib (apart from anything else, I think it had woodworm) because I wanted [[http://www.amby.co.uk/ this] which was awesome.

or this, even. (Teach me to preview!)

Oh my GOD I'm in love with the baby hammock...
(Sorry to gategrash the thread!!) I'm being so thick though and can't find the order page to work out how much it costs??

My MIL has found me some cot sheets that she got in a 'great' sale from the second hand shop. 'but they have soldiers on them!!!' NO WAY

ZuleikaD · 03/03/2013 08:53

You can pick up a Nature's Nest on ebay (or I think Kiddicare and amazon do them too) - and because the mattress is washable you don't have to buy a new one.

We used Airwrap bumpers after my son got his leg stuck in the cot and woke us up. They are support to have a reduced SIDS risk...

looneytune · 03/03/2013 20:24

Just had to add I had an Amby for ds2 (nearly 5 years ago) and LOVED it. Sold it thinking my family was complete and when I found out I was pg, it's the first thing I got for ds3 for when he arrives - bought 2nd hand for £20 - bargain! :)

Going back to OP, only use something you are happy with and don't be made to have it by MIL unless you actually want it. Can't help with bumpers as decided not to use what we got in our set with ds1 when I heard the risks.

laurieleigh · 03/03/2013 20:39

would second the AirWrap bumpers although they're cot sized so not sure how they'd work with a crib - maybe buy the 2-sided ones and just use one side? i know they sell them in kiddicare.
and i loved our Amby... unfortunately we went back into hospital for a few days after birth and when we got home DD wasn't so keen! fingers crossed bubba 2 will like it :-)
