Cooked chorizo - yay or nay?

Morning all!

Just seen my dr for first appointment, and my burning question did not achieve a satisfactory response!

(Before you think I'm crackers, this will be dc2, and dc1 is 13, so I've kinda been around the block before!)

Anyway, what do we think about chorizo during pregnancy? My husband has a repertoire of 3 delicious casserole type dishes which require chorizo, and go in the oven for about an hour before serving. Do you think that mitigates the risks?

Ta in advance!

Yes.

I did eat all salami/Parma hams etc during pg

Baby is currently babbling away next to me. I think most is pasteurised now anyway, but check the label.

I can't see the problem. Share the recipe please!

Didn't even know chorizo was a risky food item!! Had it on pizza, in paella, on its own - and I'm 38 weeks with a big very wiggly bump :)

Wouldn't worry too much if I were you.

I can't think of any problem with cooked chorizo.

I'm certain uncooked, sliced chorizo would be fine too, unless it's loose of a dodgy deli.

Bejeena · 26/02/2013 11:17

My gynaecologist said that as long as it is cooked then it his fine.

He did say not to eat it raw/cured though.

But as long as you cook it then it is fine. Wooo Hooo

We are having kale and chorizo stew for tea tonight, can't wait.

Oh dear, something else we're not allowed?? I've had it cooked and raw... Oops.
There seem to be so many new things added to the forbidden list since dc1 3 yrs ago.

Wooooooooo! This is good news. I love the power of mumsnet.

Recipes:

Chickpea and chorizo - a Nigel slater recipe, available via the Guardian on google.

Chicken and chorizo - from the bbc I think - basically chicken chorizo and onion fried off/browned, add lots of paprika, add double cream, put in oven (180 for about 40 mins) until it looks delicious and the sauce is thick. Great with mash.

And I can't remember the other one ... Baby brain infected me from bfp I'm afraid :-S

Thanks for your common sense!

Cooked is fine. However I couldn't stomach it when I was pregnant. Shame as I love the stuff.
