I know you can't dye your hair properly in pregnancy but I look a total mess and I wondered if its ok to use those wash in wash out dyes or... well... anything really. Anyone know?

Or would a bottle of jif lemon on my head work?

Why can't you dye your hair properly? I have done it in all my pregnancies and my hair dresses have been happy to do it as well.

I have always coloured my hair during pregnancy too.

It's fine to dye your hair in pregnancy. Even the NHS says so www.nhs.uk/chq/pages/949.aspx#close

my best friend is a hair dresser and she asked around for Me. she said she would recommend waiting until after first trimester but after that its fine. she did say that a patch test is essential as you can have used the same dye a hundred times but become intolerant to it with the new pg hormones in your body. she also warned that the hormones can make it go a different colour than normal so a strand test would be a good idea too!!Smile

ps she's going to do mine after week 12,but do foils so the dye doesn't really touch my head (ok cos I'm blonde!!)

Cornwall73 · 23/02/2013 21:39

What roofio said, my hairdresser won't touch anyone in the first 12 wks and then she will do a patch test first.

Ive coloured my hair with all of my pregnancies but for some reason this time round none of my usual colours are working the same and also my scalp burnt so must be extra sensitive. make sure you get skin test first.

I use permanent hair dye, usually every month due to greys. I haven't used dye since I got my BFP but will be doing my roots the day of my 12 week scan!
