just wondering how many appointments you should have with your midwife thoughtout a second pregnancy!?

im 23 weeks with dd i had ds a year ago last week so youd think id know. ive only seen my midwife at my booking in appointment and got told because this is baby no 2 i wouldnt see her much and would be contacted when i should book to see her. this is slightly worrying me as i got PE last time and am awear you can get it 22 weeks onwards.

is this normal?
should i book to see her or wait till she contacts me??

from what i remember she was pretty useless last time round and dont have much faith in her this time.

TIA x

I'm expecting my second dc and the midwife gave me a schedule for appointments.

For a low risk pregnancy it says you should have appointments for booking in, 16, 25, 28, 34, 36, 38 and 41 weeks.
I've also seen a consultant at 15 weeks and will see her again at 36 as I'm medium risk.

I also had to contact the midwife myself to book the 16 week appointment, but the following appointments are made when I see her.

I had booking in and scan at 12 weeks, 16 week with midwife, 20 week scan, 24 week, 28 week, 32 week. My next is at 34 weeks and I think fortnightly till 40 weeks and then not sure what.

sleepyhead · 21/02/2013 16:21

Obv when I say not sure what I'm hoping to have had the baby around then, but as I'm 40 I'm not sure whether they'll leave me for 10 days after due date like they did with ds, or want to induce/monitor earlier.

I'm acutually pregnant with DC3 but think schedule is same as for second. I'm low risk and have had booking in at 11weeks, midwife at 16week and now not due to see midwife again until 28 weeks. Would have thought you'd be higher risk though with previous PE. Did she put you on asprin?

ohmygoshtake2yay · 21/02/2013 16:30

they asked if id like asprin but a side affect to asprin is thining of the blood and last time i didnt clot and had to have a 3 unit blood transfuion. so i said no as that co concered me. i think i'll book to see her.i have so many issues i need to talk about. i havent even heard the heart beat :( i can feel her kicking all the time but still would like to hear her.

Yes, do call. You should have had a 16 week appointment anyway.

EuroShaggleton · 21/02/2013 16:34

ohmy if you do take aspirin, it is usually stopped a week or two before delivery is expected, so that it doesn't cause any excess bleeding.

kittykatsforever · 21/02/2013 16:36

I was told you skip the 25wk and 31wk I think it was or the one after 28 apart from that its the same as first so I think you've only missed one which would have been 16wks ( they don't like to listen to hb then as they can't always find it anyway) as you had precious issues think I'd phone now and say you think you've missed one and take there advice

ohmygoshtake2yay · 21/02/2013 17:23

euro they never told me that!! if id of knowen that i proberly would have taken it. i even told them my issue with taking it and the consultant never mentioned a thing! is it to late to stat taking it now?
grrrr bloody people!!

ohmy it's something I picked up from assisted conception fora. It's fairly standed for fertility clinics to stick you on aspirin, even if you have no known clotting issues. It's definitely worth asking if it would still be helpful to take it now and if so when you should stop, I would think. If you ever get an appointment...

looneytune · 21/02/2013 17:32

3rd for me. Standard low risk in my area include a 16 week with MW app plus 20 week with GP, I'm due my next GP appointment soon and that's for 25 weeks so I'd say mine fit with most others and sounds like you've missed out. I'd chase it as you would be higher risk imo. Good luck x

chocosaurus · 21/02/2013 19:05

Did you say you had a PE last time?
ring up tomorrow and get an and a hospital app if this is the case as you need a consultant appointment.
Otherwise as posted above for low risk second+ pregnancy.
