Sharp pain in shoulder sign of pre eclampsia?

37w and blood pressure etc has been fine all along though there is a strong family history of pre eclampsia.

No other ''symptoms' at all but the shoulder pain is very odd and has not been relieved by resting/drinking water. It's a pain I used to sometimes get if quite dehydrated if that makes sense?

Should I give the MW a quick call or just wait and see if it goes away/not even worry about it? It's lasted all day so far but I feel perfectly fine otherwise.

Any advice? Thank you in advance!!!

Usually any pain in the TIP of the shoulder is concerning but considering that you are pregnant I would still give the midwife a call x

Speak to midwife/gp ... Shoulder pain at or under the shoulder blade, and shoulder tip pain at the front can both be due yo gallbladder problems and fairly common during and after pregnancy.

Best to be checked out I think if only for your own peace of mind.

Flisspaps · 20/02/2013 15:29

I know it's a sign of ectopic pregnancy, but I've not heard about it being linked to pre-eclampsia.

Call your MW if you are concerned.

Ah yes I had wondered about gall bladder... Is it not a pre eclampsia thing at all then, shoulder pain? Am v happy to be wrong about that!! Will probably leave a non urgent message for MW just as a precaution and stop worrying about it :)
Thanks ladies!

Shoulder tip pain is not linked to preeclampsia, you would be concerned about pain under the ribs around the liver. Shoulder tip pain is related to diaphragmatic irritation, in late pregnancy probably not unusual but I would ring your midwife anyway for advice.

Emerald shoulder pain is associated with preeclampsia it can be pain that is radiating from your liver. Is it in the right shoulder? It probably is fine but I would ring mw anyway.

emeraldgirl1 · 20/02/2013 16:16

It is the right shoulder yes. Kind of at the very top and the top of the shoulder blade .

Definitely ring your midwife, pain could deferred from your liver. Better to be safe than sorry.

It could also be gallbladder or you have pulled something.

emeraldgirl1 · 20/02/2013 16:21

monstermash thank you! I am very used indeed to pulling shoulders (chronic problems with them...) so I am certain it is not that type of pain at all. I am very accustomed to muscular/tendon shoulder pain that is either stiffness, general aching or even sharp acute muscle soreness, but this is quite different. It's not excruciating by any means and is intermittent but it isn't going away.

Gallbladder is something I had wondered about, or constipation maybe...?

Is it still there?
