Hi,

In which week would you recommend we buy the pram/car seat/cot etc?

We've chosen the items, just need to order them online now.

Thanks! :)

We started to get stuff after Christmas when I got to 28 weeks. Now I'm 33+4 and we have most things an I've started packing the bags for hospital.

Not buying a pram, but am really hoping that the car seat we want will go on sale between now and May

I'm a bit confused, but you know newborns can't spend long periods of time in car seats? Or are you using a sling too?

Our pram turned up the day before I went into labour! Bought it at about 30 weeks. Didn't buy anything until after the 20 week scan.

Hi all, I am not superstitious either and would've started buying after 12 week scan (small things) and big things after 20 weeks (am 32 now) however am 32 weeks now and we had it in our head that we would get Xmas out the way first - After Xmas I suddenly realised we had only 2 pay days before baby and that freaked me out. I have ordered travel system which is now in the shop and ready to collect, much to my DP and his Mum's dismay I will be collecting in the next couple of weeks. DP mum superstitious and thinks it is bad luck to have pram in house before baby born, so with my first it stayed in pram shop until I had DD and then mad rush to collect, fit in car and work out how to get car seat out of car once at hospital to collect me and DD (it took my DP and his friend half an hour!) - so safe to say this time around I will have collected, put together and worked everything out by week 36 and DP has backed off and letting me do my thing and buy what I want when I want - pregnancy rage and hormones have their upside :c)

Personally I think this bad luck nonsense is insulting to anyone that has had anything happen. And I know a couple of people who have sadly lost babies who feel that way. It is offensive.

Shit happens regardless of where your pram lives.

Any time after the second scan is ok.

Don't leave getting the car seat until the baby had actually been born like i did Blush

27-28 weeks is my 'go' time as generally, that's when fetal survival rates go up and complications down. Obviously this is not true for everyone but I felt I was tempting fate beforehand.

Congrats Smile

Whenever you want past the second scan IMO. Personally I'm going to do it more in the second trimester as I imagine that traipsing around shops ready to pop would not be a pleasurable experience. I have been googling and mumsnetting like mad also as it's my first and am kind of lost with what to get and want to get the right stuff.

Pobble, yes, we live in the middle of the city centre and are attempting to go sling-only, car seat is only for the odd city car trip! Which is why I hate paying so much for it.
