There was a form in the Bounty Pack I got from hospital when I gave birth, although I am sure you could get it elsewhere (Post office perhaps?).

Baby has to be registered as you have to send them the short birth certificate (which they return) and voila, money turns up in the bank account you specified on the form. The nice man at the registration office did say that if I had taken the form with me he could have validated it for me to save sending the certificate off, but I didn't know that in advance.

Thanks Adagio, I assumed this is something you do after but a friend said that you can do this before which did not make sense to me. I've been reading the .gov website but it seems a little confusing!

www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/online.htm

You can also get them in the bounty packs, but don't feel pressured into giving bounty all your details if you don't want to - they are certainly not compulsory.

You can only apply after your baby is born, and you'll need to have registered the birth and have a birth certificate.

Locketjuice · 19/02/2013 16:43

I got the form in my bounty pack, when I had him registered I sent the birth certificate off with the form and that's it done, you can't do it before you have a birth certificate.

And child tax credit (and working tqx credit) you can call up hmrc and they will ask you questions to see if your eligible if you are they send out the forms, simples Smile

Don't feel obliged to sign up for the lots of spam through your mailbox Bounty thing, they will try to tell you that it is the only way to get a CB form - it is not, you can print them off directgov website.
