Hi Guys,

Im a little confused about how many newborn clothes i need, obviously i have no idea how big or small the baby will be, so im really unsure about how many newborn baby grows, vests and outfits i needed to buy before its born.

My concern is I buy way too much newborn and the baby will only be in them for a couple of weeks and then I need 0-3, any advice would be great!!

Thank you :) xxx

I wouldn't get too many newborn clothes. For my fourth DC I only bought one newborn babygro and a pack of vests.
I like the 1 month size you get in M&S and I think H&M do 0-2 months they also have a 2-4 month size.
Different shops sizes vary, I find Mothercare massive, and Next on the small side.
The other thing to bear in mind is that you will probably get lots of tiny clothes as presents.

Posted too soon thanks to DS3!
I think the minimum you need is about 5-6 babygro's and 7 vests plus a cardigan and a hat. I didn't bother with outfits until around four months and then only something like jersey dungarees or footed trousers and a long sleeved bodysuit.
I would get these in 0-1 month and 0-3 months.

I've bought 4 newborn baby gro's and no newborn vests- just seven 0-3m (they only wear them under things, so it's no matter if they're a little big). I've got about eight 0-3m baby-gro's.
Some babies are barely in newborn (a friend of mine's baby wore them for 2 weeks) and people love to give tiny clothes as gifts. I figure, if i run out of newborn, it's very easy for me to pop to the supermarket to get some more so no need to go overboard.

You will get given lots (I got 4 different bagfulls of second-hand when DS was born). However, once your baby's arrived and you know the size (some babies are big enough to need 3-6 month clothes at birth) you will need about 6/7 of everything, because newborns are messy. I used to change DS about 4 times a day, because he was a skinny, wriggly baby who used to wee down the leg of his nappy...
CHarity shops are good for baby clothes, as most babies aren't in them long enough to wreck them.

Thank you, i really appreciate the advice! I didnt know you could buy 1month and 2 month sizes, great news! Its hard to know what to buy when its your first :)

Also notso thanks for the sizing advice, I bought some babygrows in 0-3 from Mothercare and thought they looked really big so i'm glad you said that x

Just wanted to add I would buy a couple of pairs of socks, three of mine had to have several blood tests while we were in hospital due to jaundice and low blood sugar. They take the blood by pricking the heel and if their little feet are hot then the process is much quicker and less stressful.
