what pram to get? so confused

I am after a pram that the baby can lay flat in but can also fit a car seat to, as although i walk quite alot (not off road) i use my car quite a bit to get to town.

Would like it to last a few years so needconvert to pushchair .

Both me and dh are tall me 5"7 dh is
6"4 so nothing low down that will hurt our backs.

Have a zafira so boot space not a problem

Budget is only around £300-£400 with carseat so this is what limits me really.

Have been drawn back to the silver cross 3d alot just not sure :$

Silver cross tend to be quite heavy.

3 years ago for DS i got a maclaren techno xlr which is lie flat and suitable from birth. Umbrella fold (which is what everyone ends up with after baby is about 6 months old). Adjustable handles (I'm 5'6, DH 6'0 and comfy). It was great and still in good condition, which is handy as number 2 is on the way.
There is a carrycot that goes with it, but I really wouldn't recommend it, ds was out of it by 8 weeks and it has a really hard base.
The recaro car seat clicks on to the buggy base too which I really liked.

Must admit I do like my friends baby jogger city mini though, which takes the recaro seat or the maxicosi cabriofix and is also lie flat from birth. It's much lighter and very easy to fold but not umbrella so takes up more room.

If i was buying now, i think i'd probably get the city mini.

I'm in a similar situation especially with the tallness lol

Get on Kiddicare, as they do sometimes have good deals.

Second hand buggaboo chameleon with new maxi cosi and base. You can always get new fabrics as you go along.
I assume its a newish zafira with isofix - the older ones were a nihhtmare for carseats due to buckle crunch. With a zafira dond assumr a seat will fit. Get the shop to fit it and check.

We have the Phil and Ted's smart. It's cracking.
We used just the forward facing buggy with DS up until he was about 4 and a bit and will be using it with a maxi cosi car seat when DS2 arrives. Very easy to get the car seat in and out. It has a carry cot you can fit into it as well (which you can buy a stand for, so no need for a separate moses basket). Really light and small- i used to take it on the bus all the time.
I also went and tested it in the snow the other day and it went very well.

Pretty much everyone I know who had a silvercross 3d or similar swapped it for a lightweight stroller/buggy once the baby was between 6-12 months. Have a read of the pushchairs section you might get some more ideas there.

There is a carry cot attachemnet for the city mini. honestly though, you really don;t need one, especially if budget is tight, that's the thing to do without. Unless you're able to use it as a moses basket/early travel cot too.Some carry cots are suitable for overnight use, some not.

The mothrrcare own brand my 4 is quote nice. Also the carrycot is quite roomy andiy takes a maxi cosi. You can usually get a discouny code if you join their baby club. I woild look out for a desent sized basket underneath and go into your nearest town centre or park on a nice day and have a good look to see what other mothers push their small toddlers in. It will give you a good idea of which prams are good and ptactical. Also if you go pram shopping try to borrow an older child to see how big the seat unit is. Some are ridiculously small.

2002 zafira is newer than the one we had.Buckle crunch is when you strap the seat in and the buckle sits against the plastic of the seat. In the case of an accident the buckle may not hold. We had a 1998 or 99 zafira and car seats were no fun. We had to change some. Just get a good car seat place to fit a seat for you. We had the fun of the car seat plus it was dc5 so needed to fit pram in with all seats up.

I would recommend going to kiddiecare, mamas and papas, mothercare or similar to try them out ( obviously depends where you live)... Some are very flimsy and won't last, others are really small and won't last, some are a bugger to fold. Have fun!

Go spend an afternoon pushing some round John Lewis/Mothercare/Kiddicare/Local shop. Make a shortlist based on how it feels to push, what features it has that you want, how you will be using it day to day and then come home and go online to www.bestbuggy.co.uk/ for reviews and comparisons of all of them.

Bugaboo bee can do all that but in that price range will be 2nd hand ,can highly recommend though especially if you are mainly town based.I've used one for both mine,v light,baby can lie flat from birth,can stick maxi cosi car seat on it ,easy & light to push & fold.Mine just got stolen so picked up a nearly new one for about £150 on ebay for my next baby.

We went to Kiddicare and tried a couple. We picked the babystyle oyster - had everything you wanted - base folds in half and has carrycot option to start then converts to pushchair. You can buy a car seat that fits the wheel base too. We got it all for £400.

We didn't last to even six months with the silver cross 3D. We called it the tank! But, I do go off-road and our pavements are terrible locally. I don't think the council know what a dropped kerb is.

We got a phil & teds (explorer), still using it at 2.3 and DC2 will go straight into it over the summer.

I got my buggaboo second hand and soldit on ebay for slightly more than what i had paid. Agree to stay away from silvercross (they only bought the name about ten yrs ago, nothing to do with the old silvercross). Oyster is nice but i feel seats are a bit small. Baby jogger are great to fold. Uppababy is very nice and i like how high up the seat unit is and that it is constructed so you can take big steps. I dont agree thatveverybody goes for maclaren. I dont like that the babys face is at tge height of exhaust fumes and i dont like the small wheels or the folding mechanism.

thanks all its alot to think about, I do love the oysters but from what ive seen they are a bit out of my price range.

When did you get all that from kiddicare faith was it in a sale ?

The cosatto giggle come with a pram as standard and you can also have it as a travel system with a car seat. I have seen the whole system for £400. The car seat is not isofix though.
I am tempted by the giggle but we already have the recaro car seat so just the pram/pushchair for us !

Ive just bought the Graco Evo, only paid £280 as it was on offer in mothercare and with that got the chassis, the seat which also reclines so no need to buy a seperate carrycot as its suitable from birth and has the hood, and the car seat, and a rain cover. Easy to fold and folds up quite small aswell.

I love my Stokke Explory. Plenty available on eBay second hand. I usually go on the bus with it. It doesn't fit in small car boots. I have the carrycot, pushchair and car seat adapters for it.

Curly Have just looked at the cosatto giggle and I do really like that one, have never seen it in the flesh and live in a small town so not much choice to choose from in shops and would have to test drive a pram a bit first instead of buying sort of blind online, will have to see if any shops a lil further a field from me stock the giggle.

I agree star stokke's are lovely but to much out of my price range and DH refuses to buy second hand

The graco looks nice but while graco infant car sears tend to get surprisingly good reviews in crash tests i have never been impressed by their prams. Same with hauck. I would initially look at what feels right, check your options re carseats and then look for offers. Prices can vary hugely. Also you can often find an ex display or previous years colour at a much lower price. I would rather buy the ideal pram 2nd hand (usually about up to half in price if excellent condition, much cheaper if couple of years old). You ll push a pram for a long time. A car seat is not recommended to buy 2nd hand, however if someone offers you one or lends you one and you know them well enough that you know it has not been in an accident and is not too old (5yrs), i would certainly consider that. Have you looked at mutsy or teutonia? They are lovely prams and sometimes can be found in a sale or nearly new.

Have just gogled no idea qho kiddisave.co.uk are but they have the oyster with carseat reduced to 355.-.

Also mothercare online have a price match policy. So if you find it online cheaper, you can get it through mothercare and have their network should anything go wrong.
