You'll be fine. It's only pregnant ewes you have to stay away from so as long as you didn't snog one you'll be fine. Really, the risks are MINUTE. Stop worrying and please hold poor ds's hand, if he's washed them it's fine, soap and water gets rid of most things.

ItalianJob · 29/04/2006 14:53

afaik the only remotely risky animals to handle when PG are ewes who have just given birth (can't remember if it is a toxo or a listeria risk, one or the other). Am sure you know yourself that one 15 second handwash is enough to get rid of anything dubious, never mind five!

do you normally have these type of worries about hygiene? are you feeling depressed at the moment?

ElizabethPurley · 29/04/2006 14:57

\link{http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2005/051207c.htm\see? As long as you didn't help a ewe lamb you'll be fine}

\link{http://www.countrydoctor.co.uk/education/Education%20-%20Pregant%20women%20and%20lambing.htm\and another, really really really small risk and you should stop worrying imo}

Women have lived on farms for centuries and given birth to strong, healthy children.

Relax, give your DS a cuddle and enjoy your pregnancy.

bodenbetty · 29/04/2006 15:21

thanks - not depressed - just paranoid about everything - I had 2 early mcs before this pg & have yet to convince myself that this time there will be a baby at the end of it. My middle names should really be glomm & doom!!
I have absolutely no shopping for this pg apart from trouses as I'm so huge & am probably in denial!
the tiny rational partof me knows I'm being stupid bit teh far larger irratinal part of me can't help but worry about every last little thing........

don't worry last year i went to a farm while pg with ds2 and he was born fine.
just have a bath and relax and enjoy the rest of your pg.
Hope to see you on the july thread.

pussycatmomma · 29/04/2006 18:28

to add to the already apparant reassurance, Bodenbetty (im lovin the name), my dad is a farmer, and also breeds sheep, my mum had me and my sis no probs at all, no miscarriages etc etc. She must have assisted more sheep give birth than ive had hot dinners, cleaned out more animal pooh, etc etc , like another poster said, women have farmed animals for centuraries and been ignorant of these minute chances of risk to their unborn child. I think because we are so ultra aware of the risks around us doent necessarily place us on a better footing.
dont worry honey, enjoy whats left of your pregnancy! xx

bubbly1973 · 29/04/2006 20:48

bodenbetty,...at least you went to the farm, today we went to the park near a farm and when ds asked me if we could go in the farm i said it was shut..Blush

im 34weeks pg, and paranoid just like you, so dont worry about worrying, but like the others said, you should be fine....now i will go and practice what i preach

cori · 29/04/2006 20:58

Bodenbetty, I am almost 40 weeks pregnant and am planning to take DS to a farm tomorow. Try not to worry to much, it is quite normal that you are worried about your pregnancy because of your previous miscarriages. I had a miscarriage before this pregnancy too. There is a very supportive thread on the pregnancy board for women who are experiencing the same nerves as you. \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=49&threadid=167519&stamp=060429175856\here}. Come and join us if you want to talk about anything.

Hi Bodenbetty - I went to a city farm today, incl. some really cute lambs. Kept my distance slightly from them but otherwise tried to be relaxed. I'm nearly 15 wks pg, after early m/c last Dec, so have been utterly convinced that this one doomed as well. Seems to be sticking though! Good luck, you'll be fine (do try some of those links, gels there are luverly)
