Ok so I have my positive test have know for the past week but waited to contact gp or MW till this week I'm about 10 weeks I have 3 (13,12&3) but with them all I found out I was pg through gp and he referred me to MW this time I have found out by home test and an abundance of morning sickness! My friend says I just contact the MW? I'm in Scotland we have a community MW unit locally.Don't ask why but I feel really strange and a bit sheepish about calling up Gp or MW Blush what did you do? I self referred to Midwife with dd2 as it was quicker and the gp appointment was pointless. He congratulated me and then told me to contact the midwife. Second time I cut out the middle man Smile

Depends on your area. Just phone the receptionist at your gp practice and ask what the usual way is. Or phone mw if you have a number and ask the same.
Congratulations!

I would call the surgery and ask what their procedure is as it seems to really vary. I had to have a completely pointless 10 minute appointment with my GP for them to refer me to the midwife, and was told I could not self refer direct to MW but its different in different areas.

In Scotland you contact the midwife direct.

Big Scottish Exec campaign a few years ago about it & still posters up in GP surgeries etc. telling you too.

I'd phone them on Monday, you get a booking in appointment, then a scan at 11-13 weeks normally. Congratulations!

It varies. With DD I went to the GP, they filled in a form.

With DS I rang the MW direct to save fannying about with an extra appointment. They were happy for me to do it. Then the GP's receptionist rang me for a smear reminder and got shirty with me for not seeing the GP as the MW hadn't told them I was pg, and "the Dr might have prescribed you something you can't take when pg" - clearly she didn't think I'd be clever enough to ask the GP if any future medication prescribed would be ok to take when pg (I wasn't on any medication at the time, so it didn't bloody matter!)

Self refer to the MW, seeing a GP is pointless. Some surgeries like you to see the GP first as they get some sort of funding for having a pg woman registered with them.
