7 weeks, no heartbeat. anyone else?

I know I'm fairly doomed as measurements were only 4 to 5 weeks. I'm not bleeding, had scan for reassurance as had late miscarriage last year. I'm sure dates right and got a positive test on a cheap test 3 weeks ago.

is anyone else going through the hideous week wait for a rescan? anyone got a miracle story?!

Can't read and run, really feel for you - I am 5+4 at the moment so have no advice just lots of hugs

Could you have ovulated later in your cycle? Remember that hormone levels can vary from person to person and maybe yours was detected sooner?

4 to 5 weeks is too early to hear a heartbeat. 7 is also early. I don't think they expect to hear anything until at least the 8th. I have my 8 week scan next week. They scanned me at 5+2 and you could only see the sac - no heartbeat and the gyno didn't expect to hear it either.

The fact that you're not bleeding is a very positive sign. I have everything crossed for you!

thanks for replies. I suppose there is tiny chance I conceived later but my cycles are so regular so I would be surprised if I ovulated late. I'm more confused by fact that I got positive test 3 weeks ago, surely that wouldn't read positive if late conception. the consultant didn't say give up hope completely, but not feeling too hopeful...

4 to 5 weeks is still to early. I had similar scan about 4-5 and all they could see was sac, I thought I was 8 weeks but my dates were pushed back. Had a scan at 7-4 & there was a good heartbeat & normal growth. Wouldn't worry too much if I were you, especially as you have no bleed.

That's reassuring tiger, thanks. I just can't get my head around how I could be 5 weeks when I haven't had sex for 4 weeks if that makes sense. so confusing. I had been almost hoping for bleed so I can get it over with. maybe I will try and stay more positive!

I also think that it is too early. I thought I was 7 weeks and scan measured smaller, honestly am confident it is all fine perhaps your egg was released a bit later or similar and baby is smaller. As I said I had this and now am 13 weeks according to both my scan and periods so the baby caught up.

You don't always here heartbeat until 8 weeks and you are not bleeding so try not to worry x

oh thanks bejeena. after my last experience I'm a natural pessimist. Just went to super drug and bought stacks of pads and painkillers. It will be a long week...

(((hugs))) and fingers crossed for you. Because of the way they calculate the weeks, I believe that 5 weeks pregnant means you conceived 3 weeks ago (the first two weeks you are classed as "pregnant" you are not actually pregnant), and sperm can hang around in the uterus for up to a week, so it is in theory possible to have had sex four weeks ago, have conceived three weeks ago and be five weeks pregnant. Good luck!

Goosey there was no heartbeat for me at 7 weeks either. I was spotting. They told me to go back at 8 weeks and there was a heartbeat. I am 22 weeks now and fingers crossed all is well.

Regarding the late ovulation its totally possible. I only used the CBEFM for a couple of cycles and I was AMAZED by how different my ovulation days were month to month.

Fingers crossed for you, don't give up hope

Thanks for all the replies. I stomped out of the hospital completely convinced it was over. Although I think I will prepare for worse, these stories will help me through if I don't bleed. This is one rare occasion where I actually feel better after googling. nothing like a glimmer of hope to get one through the dark week... x

i had a bleed at what i thought was 7 weeks, went for scan and got asked those horrible words "are you sure of your dates?" i only measured about 5 weeks, no heartbeat. Was convinced it was all over, spent a week crying went for scan a week later to find lovely heartbeat measuring 8 weeks like i thought i should be ds2 is now a healthy 9 yr old!
I know it's awful living in limbo, but don't give up hope it's not an exact science.

i went for scan ( positive i was 8 weeks) and only measured 5 with no heartbeat. i went back 2 weeks later to see baby measuring 8 weeks with a heartbeat so dont panic yet. :)

Fingers crossed for you. Just because you had regular cycle doesn't mean you ovulated h alf way through. I had regular 29 day cycle yet ovulated day 20ish. Scans this early ofte cannot accurately date.

Sometimes dates make absolutely no sense... I was sure I should be 7 weeks along and they scanned me due to bleeding and said I needed to come back for a rescan as looked only 5/6 weeks...

I went back and they were right! Heart beating and everything... 5 months now.

Good luck, I'm a pessimist too but trust me, it can have a happy ending xxx

Thanks guys for all these tales of hope! What with reading your posts, and the fact I feel sick and dropped off this afternoon, makes me feel so much better. Funny thinking this was a reassurance scan booked by a kind midwife. I had really enjoyed being pregnant again up to this point...

Hi I’m also in this situation and wondering what your outcome was? I’m hoping it was ok. I had a scan on Sunday and I knew for sure I was 7w 2 days but scan was only showing 5w 2days with no heartbeat they told me to take another pregnancy test in two weeks time and then book in for another scan. It’s absolute torture.

That happened to me. Went in thinking I was 7w+5, but measuring as only 5/6 weeks. I went back for a follow-up scan two weeks later and there was a foetus and heartbeat. It was an agonising wait but I’m now 8 weeks, measuring 8 weeks and hoping I’ll be a success story x

Hi there

Find it reassuring reading your positive experiences after being told ‘no heartbeat’ initially.
I had a miscarriage in July (5+ weeks).
Am pregnant again, my dates say I’m 7+1. had an early reassurance scan on Friday and they could only see a yolk sac, no heartbeat or Fetal pole.
I’ve got a rescan booked for two weeks time which is just going to be the longest wait ever.
Totally sapped all the excitement out of this pregnancy for the moment. Not feeling good about it but your posts give me hope.

Hi, I’ve just been reading through the threads and I have had a very similar experience to this. I went for an early scan at what I thought was 8+2 they could only see a yolk sac. I then had an internal scan at EPU she said she could see a yolk sac and fetal pole but was measuring 5 weeks. I had sex 5 weeks ago so I don’t think that is possible and it would have meant I would have ovulated day 26 of my 28 day cycle which I think is impossible. Did you have internal scans to get your measurements? X
