unstable position

Hi can anyone tell me if this has happened to them I am 36+ and my baby is still changing position my midwife said that when I see the consultant next week he might want to admit me because she has never stayed in the same position and it is dangerous

i know that was garbled sorry but I have never heard of this before apparently if my waters break there is nothing to stop the cord and this is a real emergency!

any advice would be much appreciated

sniff, ive not experienced it personally, but my sister in laws baby was moving all over right up until she was on her due date, ....they had to monitor her, and they did get concerned once she reached the due date because when they scanned baby weighed a lot.

thats not much help is it

i think sometimes different midwifes give different opinions, and your baby may well turn down in the next few weeks, sorry couldnt help much maybe someone who has had this can come along and be of more use!

usually babies settle into a head down position by about 32 weeks, with a few remaining breech till the end of pregnancy. In both cases if your waters go the body of the baby lying in a vertical position will act as a plug over your cervix and stop the cord falling through it. If a baby is constantly moving and often lying in a sideways position this will not happen and the cord can prolapse ( pass throught ) the cervix. If this happens it affects the blood flow to the baby, especially if there is then any pressure on the cord from the babys body or it gets cold and starts to clot inside ( as it is supposed to after delivery. Your midwife is correct to warn you that if you have an unstable lie the best place for you to be is in hospital for the next few weeks - Sorry.

I am a community midwife and if you were a client of mine i would be referring you to the consultant now as well.

Thanks for that she seems great but I had never really thought of it before
I am going to visit my sister today incase they make me go in next week and get every thing ready I live 2 hours drive from every one so I better visit now incase of section

thanks for the advice I really needed a second opinion x
