I'm hoping to have a sweep done tomorrow and wanted to know if there are any dos and don'ts afterwards to make the chances of success higher.

If it's going to work, it'll work. If not, it won't.

There's nothing you can/can't do to help it along. I'd go home and eat Jaffa cakes.

FoofFighter · 13/02/2013 13:53

^ that Grin

I shan't be having one. Sweep that is, not jaffa cakes!

NAR4 · 13/02/2013 13:57

Thats what I thought Flisspaps but wanted to check just in case, as I've never had a sweep before (assuming midwife actually does it this time).

My friend who is a midwife told me to go for a walk after having mine I went round Tescos. She also said to have a bath with lavender oil in it.

Nicky1306 · 13/02/2013 14:13

Ohhhh nar4 I have mine tomorrow too! Fingers crossed they work for both of us and we get to meet our babies soon! Grin when is/was your due date? X

Flisspaps · 13/02/2013 14:16

Roger I think that's because lots of women think they should do something, and you're more likely to go into labour if you're relaxed (besides, no long lovely soaks in the bath for a while post baby, they sense the point at which you go 'aaaah, bliss' and start yelping for more milk!

SneakyBiscuitEater · 13/02/2013 14:17

I made a massive family lasagne and apple pie with DH saying shouldn't you put your feet up. I don't know if I was nesting or if it was all the squatting down to put things in the oven but we ate a hearty meal and DD wad born less that 12 hours after the sweep.

The MW will be able to tell you how favourable your cervix is which is a good indicator of if it will work.

Good luck.

BabyRoger · 13/02/2013 14:29

Probably Fliss. Just sharing what my friend told me to do.

NAR4 · 13/02/2013 15:46

Baby is Lavender oil meant to work the same as Clary age oil or is it just to smell nice and be relaxing? Sounds much more appealing than the walk.

Nicky my due date is tomorrow, when is yours? Hope your sweep produces some results.

Due Saturday......me too feeling VERY uncomfortable now! X

BabyRoger · 13/02/2013 18:18

Nar4 - I've no.idea I'm afraid! I think you are meant to avoid lavender oil earlier on in pregnancy so I assume It's meant to do.something prob not though

4 drops of the essential oil in the bath but I put about triple that in

My waters broke the next day. Probably nothing.to.do with it but I liked having a plan!

Nicky1306 · 13/02/2013 19:33

Have sex?! This is all everyone keeps telling me to do x

NAR4 · 14/02/2013 09:27

So the plan is; sweep
relaxing soak in the bath with lavendar oil (and jaffa cakes)
sex

Hopefully the combination of things will start labour. If not I will just need to wait for induction I expect.
