When did you start wearing proper maternity clothes?

I am 21 weeks with second pregnancy. Been in some maternity clothes for a few weeks now but not really getting my bump out - more hiding it! Tried on some of my more fitted stuff earlier from last pregmancy and it made me feel much better - but for some reason I feel like people might think I look too big for 21 weeks or think I am being too eager to get my bump out ..
I probably sound bonkers!

I was in it at 16 weeks, at first hint of bump!! It made me feel special Blush silly really...

I feel like this. 2nd time round, 23wks, in no rush to leap into mat wear but vanity is getting the better of me and I don't want people to start to wonder whether I'm of or have just put on weight!

I'm, like you, finding the fitted stuff from my last pg (I'm a bit lumpier so they're a bit more fitted Grin) better at this stage as its much more obviously a bump. I'm still in my bigger jeans with the button open under baggy jumpers and a bump band as I found the mat t-shirts with ruching etc won't really work for a while yet. But not a lot has happened to my bosom so dresses that aren't fitted aren't doing much for me right now.

I am only 5 weeks in and suspect I will be in maternity stuff soon, I am so bloated. Confused

I was in maternity by my 12 week scan last time. I think my body has given up though, this will (hopefully) be my 7th baby.

I got really bloated so was up and down like a yo-yo on my tummy. Also got terrible sickness in first trimester so was in mine by 10 weeks as the waistbands on my maternity clothes were much more comfortable and didn't aggravate my sickness. I did show pretty early though.

Thanks for replies - I was feeling a bit silly earlier. I absolutely loved my last pregnancy - this time I am a bit bigger - bit think maybe embracing the bump will actually help reduce the 'I feel fat' element.. Dizzy you summed it up perfectly !
phoenixrose that's lovely - it is special - enjoy every minute if you can - I even missed my bump a bit last time after I had given birth!
midori wow 7 - you must be quite an expert!

1 st pregnancy I was in maternity wear quickly around 20 weeks so excited to be pregnant very sill really. This time i am using belly bands and baggy tops bought some maternity leggings at 30 weeks just wear baggy tops and leggings over the top.
Now 36 weeks and just wear what I can squeeze into I am tighter (money not size) this time and don't want to spend money on me lol
Just wear what you feel comfortable in whether it's maternity or not especially if your sitting down a lot don't want that tight squish across bump x

I'm nearly 20 weeks, I've got one maternity skirt which I've been wearing since about 12 weeks, I was just excited to buy something maternity! I'm being penny-pinching now and am still wearing my normal clothes, most of them are dresses or stretchy tops/skirts anyway so they're fine for now, I wouldn't even attempt to get into my pre-pregnancy jeans anymore.

Msbluesky32 · 13/02/2013 11:33

I had to wear maternity jeans at about 8 weeks as mine normal ones were really digging in and tops about 15 weeks as my ribs expanded etc. I only started to 'show' at about five months and had lots of people telling me I didnt look pregnant, which at the time I found a worry and annoying. Some people will always have an opinion - I wouldnt worry just do whatever you feel most comfortable doing. Best of luck with your pregnancy!

elliejjtiny · 13/02/2013 12:01

1st - 8 weeks (I was excited Grin)
2nd - about 10 weeks I think (excited again)
3rd - I remember feeling proud that I wore "normal" clothes to my 16 week appointment but think I was in maternity clothes soon after.
4th - Mostly wore my normal jeans tucked under bump or undone with belly band and long tops
5th - miscarried at 13 weeks so stayed in normal clothes
6th - currently 19 weeks and either wearing my "fat jeans" which fit round the waist but baggy round the legs or my normal jeans with a belly belt on the narrowest setting and long floaty tops.

Chocaholics · 13/02/2013 12:05

I wore maternity jeans/trousers from 20 weeks in both pregnancies. I wore my bigger/baggier tops throughout both and didn't buy any maternity tops at all. Although that's cause I'm tight and didnt want to buy clothes I'd only wear for a few months.

Really wouldn't worry about what people think, I would say wear whatever makes you feel comfortable through the day.

MrsPennyapple · 13/02/2013 12:09

I'm 15 weeks now, and even my bigger trousers are cutting into me on the waist, so I'm wearing maternity jeans, which are really too big. I'm just in between, it's very annoying!

rrreow · 13/02/2013 12:45

1st preg - around 24 or 26 weeks I think
2nd preg - around 15 or 16 weeks

I am basically living in my maternity jeans. They're great, because although I could fit into my regular jeans still with an elastic band to do them up, they'd either be too tight at the waist or too loose and fall down my bum. The maternity jeans stay in place nicely because of the elastic that is over the bump.
