Have had horrendous lower back ache the last 6 hours. Am 36 weeks pregnant and had a superbly healthy pregnancy, all things considered. Now, I have ALWAYS suffered with back problems but this is the worst I've felt it all pregnancy and so I slathered on a load of Deep Heat.

As an afterthought, I Googled to see if its okay for use during pregnancy... and the majority seem to say no, it's not okay. Something to do with the anti inflammatories or something (clearly not a doctor). But the pain us finally finally lessening!!!!

So, should I go wipe it all off with a warm flannel just in case, or should I let it be? What would you do???

Depends check on what the active ingredients are - if it's Ibroprofen which is an NSAID then it is contraindicated in the 3rd trimester as it can interfere with the closing of a valve in the babys heart
I don't think this is the active ingredient in the brand 'deep heat' which uses a menthol base but it is in some generic brands. I would wash it off but I wouldn't worry as it's a one off issue rather than sustained use.

I have always been told its a firm no because of the anti-inflammatory in it, if it were me I would be washing it off and using a warm water bottle or jumping in the bath, but maybe u could ring nhs direct and speak to a hcp? X

Argh I know you're right just reluctant to move (painful!) and go wipe it off (even more painful!)

Thanks for talking sense into me.

Try Tiger Balm instead. Can be found in most supermarkets or boots/superdrug.
