So, I will put the caveats and excuses up front and say this is doubtless a totally daft / bizarre question. But, despite having ingested what feels like every pregnancy book over the last 9 months, I don't recall having ever seen any info on this so I'm hoping someone can help.

I am 38+5 and have been fully embracing the nesting stage today. As I was cleaning the water off the inside of the utility room roof (and unusually satisfying it was too!) I got down off my step and noticed the skin on the palms of my hands and fingers were a uniform bright red. It went away quite quickly, no tingling or blotches like when you overheat, and wasn't itchy. It didn't appear to be a reaction to a cleaning product or me overheating as I wasn't using anything to clean with and was for once paying attention to not getting too hot. Since then, I noticed after washing my hands in cold water the same thing has happened a few times today.

This is obviously totally minor, painless and non-threatening but I was just curious if anyone else had experienced this and if it was just a physiological glitch in me, or pregnancy-related?

Dear Multibean, no you are not being weird. This is quite a common occurance and nothing to worry about, an increase in the hormone estrogen is one explanation, also increased blood volume during pregnancy also causes more blood to flow to your palms. Just avoid shaking hands with anyone for the next few days and you will be fine,

enjoy your nesting
