Sudden increase in fundal height

I have up until now been measuring at just under the amount of weeks I am, until today! I'm 34 + 2 and measured 37cm today, the concern is last time I was measured at 31 weeks I measured 29cm so an 8cm increase in 3 weeks!! Have been referred for a growth scan which isn't til next Monday so I'm panicking slightly.

Has anyone got any experience in this? I know these measurements should be taken with a pinch of salt but all that's running through my mind now is Monster sized baby and gestational diabetes!

If baby was big would I be induced early?

Please don't worry, it's probably nothing. Really, fundal height is notoriously inaccurate. Was it the same midwife measuring or someone new? It could just be baby is in a different position.
Best of luck with your scan on Monday. You could always phone the scan unit and ask if they've had any cancellations to fit you in sooner as you're worried. If you don't ask you won't get!

The scan will sort out whether he's really growing that much or not. FWIW both my babies have had a sudden, big leap in fundal height in the 37th week. DS1 was absolutely fine and my midwife isn't worried about it for DS2 who's due next week. It's a rough indicator and they just need to check things out.

It's a very crude measurement and often inaccurate. My Fundal height was measuring 4 weeks larger than dates from about 36 weeks but DD was born average size - try not to let it freak you out even if the scan shows a big baby, they can also be out by a pound or more.

Thanks for the replies, I'm hoping the measurements are wrong, roll on Monday!

I was measuring normal at 28 weeks then started to shoot up and one average measured 2/3 weeks ahead. Was referred for a growth scan on Monday which showed baby to weigh around 6.1 pounds at 35 weeks. When this was plotted on my graph the baby was below 90th cent and was told not to worry! Fundal height measurements are often inaccurate but then I've also heard growth scans can also get the weight down!

The midwife on Monday said they don't induce for bigger babies now. Not sure if that's true everywhere? Try not to worry x
