Baby movements at 20/21wks....or lack of?

This is my second pregnancy and I'm a little concerned about the apparent lack of movements from bambino...I felt the 'flutterings' quite early on, around week 16/17, but they haven't really increased in strength, are very sporadic and if I do feel anything, they are pretty low down... With DS once they started that was it, grew in strength day by day and were everywhere.... Now I'm sure each pregnancy is different, but really, this different? Considering ringing midwife, but don't want to be a nuisance!? Any other second time pregnancy experiences you can share?

Ring your midwife, that's what she's there for. Could you have an anterior placenta?

Shaiandbump · 11/02/2013 09:27

With my 1st I felt Regular movements from 18 weeks now I'm pregnant with my second I didn't feel regular movements til weeks 22/23

Have you had your 20 week scan yet? If so, it should say on the report where your placenta lies, if its anterior then it's common not to feel much until as late as 25 weeks. Also some babies are just 'quieter' than others. I'm 22 weeks with anterior placenta and haven't felt anything that I could say was definitely baby moving and it does make me a bit anxious.
If its really worrying you call midwife and they should be happy to at least have a listen to babies heart for you to put your mind at rest.

Yes, had 20 wks scan and all appeared 'normal', placenta is upper posterior, although it did take a long time for them to get all the measurements etc as baby very sleepy at the time! I'm sure I'm just been paranoid and Quilty, as you say some babies are quieter than others, but I think I'll give the MW's a call to check things over. Thank you for your thoughts.

I'm 20wks and only in past few days have I felt anything, and it's not very often. I've been really worried as with DC1 I was feeling that popping thing from 16wks but I skipped that whole stage this time.

I didn't feel properly identifiable movements until about 23 weeks, I think. Prior to that lots of stuff that felt like wind and I couldn't really distinguish movements from my digestive system...

Hey I'm 25 weeks with dc2 and I felt the same as u felt movements very early but they never got stronger!! They've only been stronger since last week and only moved up instead of being really low Down literally this weekend just gone. My midwife just thinks I have a lazy baby but if ur concerned call them just for reassurance. I know excately how u feel and I wish he would move more than he does although today he's starred moving more!!

Thanks katesav87, I know it's really strange isn't it! Spoke to midwives and they don't seem concerned, says it normal and sometimes one doesn't feel anything strongly until week 25/26... (where you are now!) So I'm hoping they get stronger soon, I love the feeling of knowing baby is there!! I have a GP check up tomorrow in anycase, so hopefully all will be checked over then.
