18 weeks and epic weight gain

I have already put on a stone and four pounds at 18 weeks . I have gone from a 30D to a 34F bra size already. No one I know has put on anything like this amount of weight and I'm starting to feel like a freak.

Have any of you gained much weight? Might it slow down? I don't want to put on 5 stone!

I had put on no weight at 16 weeks. I had put on a stone at 19!!! Then didn't put any on for ages again.

If you are overeating then watch it a bit, if you're not go with the flow and it should all come off afterwards.

I put 3 stone on with both of mine and it came off except for the last bloody half a stone within a year.

Well boob growth is a separate issue! I assume with your back size you were quite slender to start with?

Try not to worry too much. Just try to eat when you're hungry and keep active.

Hello, I put on a stone in the first trimester and then since then it has settled down massively. Try not to worry about it but maybe worth mentioning to your midwife. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

Thanks for replying . I think it is partly over-eating and partly just pregnancy because of bust-size. I hate it!

this advice might help put your mind at ease a bit!

I would stop weighing yourself and go by the size of your non-pregnant bits (does that even make sense?!?).

I wasn't weighed at all during pregnancy, though I weighed myself at the end. I judged my weight by the size of my arms and legs, which I don't think should really change shape in pregnancy.

I think if your arms and legs stay the same, then any weight is pregnancy related and will come off fairly quickly after the birth (though you may well be a different shape afterwards!).

Just eat healthily. You don't need to eat for two ;)

I've put on 8lbs so far (19 weeks) I had put on 2-3lbs in first trimester then nothing for a good few weeks and now it's piling on.

I think all you can do is try and eat as sensibly as possible and let your body get on with it, I'm trying not to obsess over the scales.

I put on 5 stone when I was pregnant with DS. I don't remember over eating particularly but I was miserable so maybe that had something to do with it. This time round I have put on weight slowly and steadily but I'm having a girl (maybe this is why I'm putting on weight differently) but I'm also very happy and concious of how much I'm eating as I don't want to put on that much weight again.

I do think it depends on the individual as to how much weight you put on. If you're shorter (like I am) I think it shows more. But also depends on your pre pregnancy weight and your metabolism. If it's any consolation I lost about a stone and a half immediately after I had DS and then when I decided to lose the rest it came off very easily. I was a size 8 by the time he was 1.

I would say however that if you start making changes to your diet (assuming it is not ideal) while you are still pregnant it will be loads easier to lose the post baby weight and you may start to slow down the weight gain. It will also mean you don't feel desperate after you have the baby and look for quick fix cures. I'm only speaking from past experience, not in a judging way! Good luck!!

Some good advice here; I will check out that link.I'm trying not to obsess but I am really down about it. The daily comments at work don't help. People helpfully telling me that 'my sister is 38 weeks and she's half your size'.

Perhaps I will avoid the scales and take up swimming. If I can find a swimsuit to fit my enormous boobs!

Thank you goodbyekitty. I put on 4 stone with dd and I lost it all within a year so i do know it isn't the end of the world. Doesn't stop me feeling like a beached whale now though. I think it's hard because you're not meant to be shallow in pregnancy...and I still am shallow and vain
