Why am I so cold??

I'm 9 weeks pg and I'm really feeling the cold. Not really a problem or concern but I'm intrigued as to whether anyone else has experienced this as I'm not usually a 'cold' person and everything I've read has suggested I might get hot flushes!

Any ideas?

Me! I rarely feel the cold usually. And when I first got my BFP I was so hot I'd have to strip on the spot! But now, at around 6 weeks, I sit on the sofa under a thick blanket with the fire blazing, and really thick slippers on. My husband sits here with his top off as it's like a sauna (apparently!)

Not sure why, I wonder if all the heat/energy is concentrated around your stomach so your extremities will suffer?!

I was like this early on (now 22 weeks and it's gone), no idea why as wasn't with the other 2.

girraf me too! I gave always been the one whos hotter than everyone else in the room but since being preg i really feel the cold. Am also 6 weeks (7 on tuesday). I wouldnt mind if it carried on as going to be massive come late summer! :)

I'm exactly the same. Actually I find I'm fine if I'm active, but as soon as I stop moving I get really cold.

I was in the office this week with my thermal vest, dress, thick tights, jacket, scarf, thick coat!

I'm the same at 15 weeks. Been like this for a couple of weeks now. I think it's because I'm way less active than I used to be due to no exercise on doc's orders.

I bought one of those microwave hottie things because I was so tired of boiling the kettle for my hot water bottle!

Me too (34pinklasy I think you're on the Oct 2013 thread with me and I meant tk say that I am having exactly the same problem). I am 5 + 5 and I am having the same trouble. It seems to be possible for me to be both roasting hot and shivering at the same time Hmm

I have always had poor circulation and tend to feel the cold, so I wonder if the fact that I have now got loads of blood being directed elsewhere than my extremities is making it worse

I've been like this too - much better now I'm well into the second but in the first I often got so cold it made me cry. I am normally the one who walks round in a tee-shirt in winter and doesn't feel it. I also got/get massively painful boobs if I got too cold (sorry). Those snap handwarmers (stuffed down bra) saved me a few times... :)

I was the same throughout my first and beginning of my 2nd trimester and got fed up with people saying "youre pregnant your not meant to be cold!!" And also find nipples hurt like hell when im cold (sorry if tmi!)

Me too! A friend said it was something about you "giving" all your warmth to the baby, or something. I think it's just February, and miserable, and I want it to be spring NOW!

Last time around it went away and I started feeling hot. Which was perfect as was heavily pg during winter, was like carrying a hot water bottle around all the time. This time I'm due late summer. Might not be so comfortable!

Before I type this: DISCLAIMER this is what MW said happened, not checked with anyone else but she seems sensible.... Just saying, as I don't want to alarm anyone needlessly!

In this (2nd pregnancy to get past 6 wks) 1st trimester I had that feeling of never being warm, and shivering uncontrollably during the evening. Turned out I had a UTI with no other symptoms, picked up at booking appt. MW said the cold/ shivers were probably linked, and they stopped once the antibiotics did.

Now deep into 2nd trimester, being too hot/ flushed face is my much more likely complaint....

In the day I'm freezing too (I'm also 7 weeks tomorrow) but in bed at night I'm roasting! So much so I sleep practically naked and no longer cuddle up!

Adreamz, I'm the same - can't get warm for love nor money during the day and evening and then once in bed I'm so hot that I wake up in the middle of hte night drenched and have to strip off. OH can't get close to me in bed, says that I burn him!

I have poor circulation and because I don't drink enough I am always cold - especially hands and feet. Try upping your intake of water and see if it works, it might just be the way it works for me though (whether I'm pregnant or not). I am 35 weeks and hot, hot, hot now, sweating buckets day and night!

All through my first trimester I was freezing all last summer. I would be sat on the sofa in a hoodie and duvet whilst others were in t-shirts with the patio doors open.

My mum was exactly the same. Wore off as soon as the placenta kicked in.

Thanks for replies everyone - so glad I'm not the only one!! None the wiser what causes it but glad to hear it might not last...

springforward did you have any UTI symptoms or were you unaware?

Was unaware, totally. The infection was picked up from routine urine testing at my booking appointment. Once the ME called with the results the shivering kind of made sense as a fever coming and going. There was a thread here started by someone with similar thing going on at the time, about 16 weeks ago IIRC. Very odd.

Me too! Although I'm generally cold when I'm tired and I'm exhausted at the moment. Only 6 weeks.
