Where to put baby to sleep

Not sure this is actually the right section, sorry if it is wrong.

But clueless about babies. Hoping to learn lots in the baby classes that start soon!

We have a cot that will go in our bed room and a carry cot attachment for the pushchair. Do we actually need a Moses basket? Can it sleep in the carrycot during the day and straight into the cot at night? We also have a travel cot. Just trying to keep to the essentials!

Hi. You have to look up what the carrycot manufacturer says about the overnight sleeping. Some are suitable and some are not. My dd has gone straight into a cot next to be bed. She is 4 weeks old and seems to be sleeping well! It is pulled right up close to my side of the bed so I just lift her out to feed and pop her back in after. You don't need a Moses basket it's just some people use them to move around the house for daytime sleep.

That sounds perfect to me :) I never really saw the point in Moses baskets, except that they look pretty!

You might find that you want to leave the pushchair/carrycot in the car, but you have a travel cot, so could put that downstairs for daytime sleeps :)

I used the carrycot bit of the pram for downstairs sleeping and a crib for the first couple of months upstairs before moving to a cot.

I only have the carrycot attachment for the pram for baby to sleep in. Lots of people here on MN mentioned that this wasn't suitable for overnight for the make of pram we bought. So I rang the manufacturers and asked them. They were totally perplexed and had never heard such a thing before.

^panda do you mean they'd never heard of it being used for overnights, or they'd never heard of any problems?

Cot at night with feet at the end and carry cot for the day. Can't see a problem with that.

How heavy is the carry cot? I have a lightweight moses ready this time because last time I killed my back lugging bubs from room to room.

We used a carrycot (iCandy Peach) for daytime naps. And we co-slept at night. We didn't think it was worth getting a moses basket as well as it would just be taking up space and effectively fulfilling the same purpose as the carrycot. We'll be doing the same thing for DS2 when he arrives.

We never used the carrycot for overnight though. You might be able to, but it would depend on the manufacturer guidelines and you might need to get a more suitable mattress to put in it.

Mine have slept in the pram during the day and Moses basket at night but only because I had one.If you have a big baby they outgrow it at 8-10 weeks anyway.Always kept it in the bedroom,too heavy to carry up & down stairs.II think a cot is fine at night as long as you put them at the end of it as someone said.

I used a carrycot downstairs in the day - it is approved for overnight sleeping but you have to buy an 'overnight' mattress for it, it came with a stand too. DS had a crib upstairs. We really only used the carrycot on the pram from about 3 months as DS would not go to sleep in it when it was just on the stand. Just make sure you have a stand or keep the carrycot on the chassis as if left on the floor baby can get too cold.

The suitable for overnight sleeping in carrycot part of pram is to do with whether the matteress is ventilated or not

For example off the top of my head the bugaboo cameleon def is but would have to check with other makes.

The non ventilated ones are assuming you are pushing it and gazing at your newborn so can see if their face gets swished at sides etc.

That's sounds fine what you have. We used. Cotbed in our room and bugaboo carrycot downstairs

We have an out and about from kiddicare so not sure if that would be suitable. Would sleep in the cot at night, would really just be during the day. If we got a Moses basket where do they sleep during the day when they out grow it? It the cot upstairs? We do have a fancy monitor with video and a movement sensor pad

Yup. Approx under 6 months downstairs on the day in something appropriate, then cot upstairs with monitor after
