Anyone heard about shedding vernix as an indicator of labour being close?

Had a scan yesterday when the MW noted that she could see vernix in the fluid. She commented that this could well mean that the baby would come sooner rather than later.

I can't find anything really about this on the net: has anyone heard this?

And yes, I realise that babies will come when they're ready, and it's all a load of old wives' tales etc etc... ;)

I don't know, but I do know overdue babies' skin goes a bit funny as the vernix has come off...

Which ties in with what the MW seemed to be saying. She said that premies have the vernix (and then overdue babies don't have any and so the skin goes a bit funny). So I guess when it's just been lost the baby is perfectly cooked...

Sigh. This is like the TWW all over again, but with bigger thighs..

My dds both came out with vernix at 40 + 13 and 40 + 8....
