Gender scan accuracy at 16 weeks?

I'm 17+5, last week when I was 16+3 I had a scan due to complications in a previous pregnancy. The consultant asked whether we wanted to know the sex and confidently told us we were having a little boy. I was at the GP today for something else and when we were discussing the scan she said thAt at 16(ish) weeks baby boys and girls can look very similar and to have them check the sex again at 20 weeks.

Does anyone have any experience of this? Have you been advised the wrong gender? We really don't mind - just want a healthy baby, I was just quite surprised at what the GP had said.

Was it a 4d scan?

I was told boy at 16 weeks (also had an extra scan due to complications). 3 further scans have confirmed he's definitely DS3 not DD1 :-)

I had a gender scan at 16+6. Was told two girls and it was.

I paid for a private scan at around 17 weeks, saw consultant/partner who said was carrying a girl and he had never been wrong in 15 years. Went to 20 week scan at hospital and they told me no, is definetly a boy. DS was born 20 weeks later :)

My pregnancy book says you can reliably tell from 16 weeks (as long as the baby is in the right position), but most people don't find out until 20 simply because that's when the routine scan is. 20 isn't a magic number in terms of being able to find out the sex.

Thanks all :-)

We had a 16 week scan and she said definitely girl, she said they wont announce it until they've checked 3 or 4 times and are confident that if it were their baby they'd be happy to buy pink or blue, she spent ages getting shots 'from below' which clearly showed the 3 lines. She also said that if they had any doubt they would ask me to return a week later free of charge.

It was confirmed at our 20 week scan and I can confirm it myself when she's born in 4 weeks!

They told me that I was having a DS at my 12 week scan!! I was actually 11w and 5d!! Normal NHs scan. I had the biggest shock of my life to be told that early!! 100% truth. Good luck.
