Anyone gone into labour with bad cold?

Hello,

I'm 39 weeks and have come down with a nasty cold (again). I'm rather hoping that a cold will be minor when compared to labour and that it will either mysteriously go away or I'll not even notice it. Has anyone found this? Or is a cold a really bad thing to have at this stage? If I did go into labour sooner rather than later could I pass it on to the poor defenceless newborn or are they not so defenceless? Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing so will be very interested to hear responses. Have been bunged up for 9 days and feel terrible and the idea of being in labour like this is hideous...

me - I was awful with a cold which disappeared for labour and cAme back with a vengeance a few hours later.

Yes and an awful cough. It was fine during labour but horrid afterwards, only because I had stitches I was convinced I would split. I didn't!!

Me! And it was awful! Every time I cleared my nose it would block up again 30 seconds later. I remember my midwife telling me to breathe and me thinking "I can't!!!". I had my DH constantly giving me sips of water and my lip balm firmly in my hand as had very dry lips (not helped by the gas and air . . . but wasn't letting go of that).

Sorry if that's not what you want to hear . . . but labour will be over before you know it and baby will take your mind of it.

Not sure about passing the cold on. My baby was poorly a couple of weeks after, but with that time delay it could have been down to anything and not necessarily from me. It was the height of winter at the time and I blame all the visitors with their snotty noses and germs. Think I'll be more strict this time on poorly visitors. I.e. bugger off until you're better and even then hand gel before you come in. I know I sound a little extreme, but after having 2 poorly newborns, really can't take that again.

Yes - me. Was pregnant with DS2, 38 weeks, felt like crap and wanted to go to bed - waters broke at 5.30, in labour my cold amazingly disappeared and had him at 9.30!

Me. Ds1 was born while I was full of a stinking cold. It made using gas and air a horrible, horrible experience. I never really felt aware during the birth and just felt so 'out of it'.

DS also caught a cold in first few days. I was bfeeding.

A few of my friends developed colds just before they went into labour, let's hope it's a good sign :-)
