How many size one nappies?

How many new born size one nappies?? 4-11lbs is the weight on the box. I don't want to stock up for little man to grow our of them too quickly so how many size ones should I buy to begin with? Any opinions appreciated!

DS was 6lbs 10oz at 42 weeks. He was in size 1 nappies for a couple of months. We got through about 12-14 nappies per day to begin with (poo every nappy change!) so this time round I've bought 4 packs of 26 nappies to start us off.

I think most people work on 10 nappies a day. I would get enough in for a week and then as Horrace says the shops will still be open. Used pampers with DS which were better for him than Huggies or tescos own, which I also tried. Once in size 3 I switched to nature babycare nappies (biodegradable and no bleach etc) which were great for his sensitive skin and at least as good as pampers. I've managed to get size 1 this time so will just start with them.

I got a good few packs of size one nappies. Like PP said, they poo a lot in the first few weeks so we went through about 10 nappies a day. Huggies newborn are quite good and cheaper than Pampers. Even if you have a big 10lb baby, the size ones wont be small as soon as he is 11lbs. My twins are between 12-13lbs and can still wear size two nappies. I bought a lot of size one's, they lasted about 7 weeks then we went onto cloth nappies.

It depends on how big your baby is! Also, some babies get on better than some brands than others so don't buy too many of one sort in case you don't like them.
I bought a pack of 50 size ones to start with, they kept us going for a few days and it's obvious she's going to be in them for some time so we've now bought a couple of boxes.

I can't for the life of me remember how many we got through, but I do remember that loads of people gave my half used packs of size 1's, so much so that I had enough left over for my second baby!

The best routine I got into was to keep 1 packet of the next size up nappies under the cot/in the wardrobe. That way it's easy to see when they go up size, plus they will suffice in an emergency until you can get to the shop if you run out of their current size ones.

I would just check if your nearest shop does size 0 or tiny baby. I never gave this a thought but ds2 was 6lb 7 at birth but had the smallest bum that size 1s were huge. Size 0 say 5lb but he was in them for a few weeks, but not all shops stock them. Don't buy them in advance, but know where you can get them.

We bought none for DS.

Bloody good job, he was too big for them. 11lb 7oz. He wasn't in 2s for long...

Agree with above poster who said get some size 0 just in case. We only had size 2!!! I knew nothing about nappy sizing. Our poor teeny tiny 5lb something baby had the biggest nappies on ever for the first two days of her life!

Oh. and Shops stay open. You only need one pack (big pack)

No experience, but we've bought two large-ish packs of size 1 which we calculated might last about two weeks. If the baby is too small or big for those, DH will just have to go to the shops!

We got one pack of each of several brands, so we could try out what would work best.
