Is it possible to miss a 7w3d fetus on a scan?

My doc was looking for an 8 wk fetus when I'm actually only just over 7 weeks? I was told there was an empty sac. Does anybody have any experience of this please? Thank you x

If your less than 7wks then yes it can look like an empty sac I had a scan at 6wk by lmp I was actually 5+4 by actual dates (ovulated 3 days late) and at that point it looked just like an empty sac no yolk or anything was visible. Had another scan at 7+2 and there was a heartbeat. Do you have longer cycles or anything? X

Was it an external or internal scan? I had an internal scan at 6 weeks 6 days and you could see a tiny prawn shape and a tiny flash of a heartbeat. On the external scan you couldnt see anything at all.

Hi Beckie, yes I have 30 day cycles..... I'm hoping that the doc just got it wrong!

I think its a case of waiting hun, are they rescanning you in a weeks time or anything? X

Thank you ladies..... The doc said my Gynea will decide for me to go naturally or assisted.... I'm going to go for another scan and more bloods! This was my lovely surprise and I'm not willing to go quietly without 100% confirmation - even though they are the profs!!!!! Silly I know....

Don't worry too much yet, could be possible that you just ovulated later than Normal its not uncommon to get early posatives I did with 2 of my kids, the consultants at my 5+5 scan they said there should have been more than what there was, especially as the sac measured 17.5 and had nothing in it, when its supposed to be not so good news if its bigger than 12.5 without anything in it. I'm wishing you all the best and really hope you have a little bean on your next scan xx
