Raging headaches - any advice?

I am 19 weeks and am getting debilitating, painful headaches almost every day now. I never get headaches normally, though I did notice a few in early pregnancy.

These are now bad enough to make me want to go and lie down - disrupting my concentration.

At my 16-week did not show any signs of pre-eclampsia, blood pressure and urine fine. Mentioned headaches and midwife did not have much to say.

Reckon I need to back to the doctor in case? I am wondering if these are linked to something in my diet - sugar, perhaps, and will cut that out for a couple of weeks.

Ow, though. Has anyone else had similar? How did you cope?

For me the headaches start when the central heating is on and I start to turn into a lobster (can't stand it being on at the moment) or because I'm dehydrated. I have to take water to bed with me now because otherwise I wake up with a headache.

I would definitely see the doctor. Headaches can be a sign of high blood pressure.

Afraid I had the same, all was well with blood pressure etc. they were awful like migraines. Took paracetamol and cold flannels on head. I am now 23 weeks and have hardly had any. But do go to dr to check you out! Hope they ease up soon.

I have been suffering a lot with headaches in this pregnancy, I'm only 14 weeks though. I often wake with a headache which then stays with me for the whole day. Or days :( in my case it's definitely not high blood pressure, mine is actually quite low (90/50) which is making me feel very weak and tired.

EggyM · 04/02/2013 06:58

I'm 15 weeks and also really suffering- have actually just called in sick as I honestly don't think I can cope through the day with this much pain today.
Also getting headaches pretty much every day though some days worse than others.
If anyone has any magic cures then please do post here as I can't keep taking days off work!

OhGood · 05/02/2013 14:08

Eggy - presume you have also been to doc/ have checked blood pressure?

I'm afraid I suffered this a lot too. Am nearly 21 weeks now and it is happening less. GP prescribed me some co-codamol which does seem to help, I only take one though as 2 sends me a little strange!

EggyM · 05/02/2013 20:26

ohgood yes went to docs today - blood pressure is normal - she just thinks its hormones and will hopefully sort itself out. She prescribed me some paramax so we'll see if that does anything. Have you seen a doctor?

learner glad to hear yours are starting to get better. But 21 weeks seems a long way away! When did yours start? Have had mine since about 10 weeks.

elsabel · 05/02/2013 22:17

Hi there, i suffered with headaches just as you describe right up until around 15weeks and havent had one since (touch wood, fingers crossed etc!!) Its horrible and you have my sympathy! I put myself to bed some days with a cold flannel on my head and didnt move for hours, helps but doesnt help you function. I didnt take paracetemols though as am a terrible worrier.

Sorry im not much help just plough through they should become less soon!

learnermummy · 05/02/2013 22:52

EggyM mine did start very early too and over Christmas I was taking cocodamol daily otherwise I couldn't function. I also did try eating something just before bed and that did seem to help for a while. 4head headache stick is sometimes helpful but a lot of the time only cocodamol will get rid. It's safe to use at this stage as long as prescribed.

I get headaches if I'm dehydrated. Amazed how much more water I seem to drink now (am 30 weeks). Would definately suggest drinking more (if urine darker than normal then likely to be a contributing factor).

Agree to check with doc though.

lovethesun1 · 06/02/2013 18:03

I had this too, think it tailed off around 20wks. For me I think it was the hormones but it was worse if I didn't drink enough water, & didn't have regular snacks. Forehead stick helped a bit, as did cold compress patches (i was lazy & bought the stick on ones!) & I took paracetamol if really bad - stupidly felt guilty taking them! Also, early nights where poss.

Glad all was ok at drs-keep an eye on it though. Hope you feel better v soon.
