Hi

I drank a fair bit in my first trimester as obviously it's fortified with vitamins & minerals and I had a lot of morning sickness. I also found I could hold it down a lot better than many other things.

I'm 31 weeks now and it doesn't appear to have done me any harm. However I have no idea whether it's "allowed" or not.

Congratulations!

I decided against using these as there is some evidence that they are associated with rather large babies. Obviously I want a healthy sized baby, just not a whopper! However, I did get this info from the internet so it could be rubbish.

If you wish to use them I think whey based shakes are preferable to soya ones, and avoid artificial sweeteners and other nasties. Sanatogen protein powder is advertised as safe for pregnant women - it is a plain whey powder.

Check the packaging - as sauce says, some are safe but I know I used to have Lamberts and they specifically say 'Not suitable in pregnancy'. Avoid those with ingredients like sweeteners and performance enhancing qualities and you should be ok. Also look at more traditional ways of getting more protein.

Actually, now sauce mentions it... My little one is on the 75 th centile so maybe it has turned her into a little beefcake!
