You may be pregnant but not have high enough levels of HCG yet for the test to show, what test brand did you use and did you test with first morning urine? Alternatively you may simply be late this month, various things can affect your cycle such as illness, stress or weight gain/loss.

hoping i am..it was afternoon pee and i got one from chemist not a big brand, just standard

Do you have another? If so test first thing in the morning, the hormones will be more concentrated then so more chance it will show up if you are :)
