Hi, I'm just looking for a bit of advice/some opinions. My partner had only just told his work of the pregnancy (26 weeks) They have requested to see my MatB1 but I've already given it to my employer? Do companies usually ask for proof for paternity leave?

My DH work asked for a copy of the birth cert as evidence.

Hi Alison I work in HR and in my company we tend to ask for the mat1b although is not essential as as you say the woman has normally given it to their employers!
there is a form your other half will have to fill in so his company can claim some money back from the government (his pay will be unaffected for the two weeks) this form asks for due date etc and will be sufficient for the company to make arrangements. Congrats! xx

Hi. Yes - when I got my MATB1 I scanned it as DPs employer required a copy for his paternity leave. I guess without an copies or proof a very dishonest and weird partner could pretend just to get the leave...?!

Google 'SC3 form' and it'll give you the link for the form that Fathers need to fill in for their employers, my husband only had to hand this one in and not the Matb1 form which I also had to send away to claim my maternity allowance.

If they insist on it maybe ask your midwife to fill out another.

Hello. No he doesn't need to show MAT B1 but must provide completed SC3. They cannot refuse paternity leave but if they do they will have to do this in writing. There is no legal requirement for father to provide MAT B1. Work in payroll and deal with this quiet often. Good luck. Xx

My HR department took a copy of the matb1 and gave me back the original. Could you not get the original one back?
