Sorry - am a bit confused here. Am 5 months pregnant and have been off the booze with DH for 4 of these since finding out. In addition to this unlike, DH I can not eat anything I like, feel like sh*t most of the time, have to leave work and am ruining my body.

Yet for some reason people are reacting very strangley to DH, either:

a) being really impressed with him - like he is making some sort heroic effort - Hello?

b) telling him off for modifying his behaviour? Like having a man's baby is such a treat for a woman we would find it acceptable endure all the negative rubbish alone?

I certainly would not endure any of this if DH was not prepared to make at least the same commitment as me in making this baby and looking after it!

Excellent - might hang round that Martini bar and spot the woman who has just given birth trying to look glamorous while not being able to walk and leaking out of every orifice (and then some).

Gingerbear · 24/04/2006 21:17

my DH stopped drinking completely when DD was born - he was frightened in case he dropped her.
Lasted all of a week.
Don't think he would have worn one of those 'pregnant man bellies' to 'feel' what it was like to be pregnant either.

They are still blokes.

Best dad here in empathy stakes is hub2dee IMO.

He is lovely.

Please hang around Noodle - we have all done Gina Ford and breast/formula feeding to death. We need a new debate!!!

"If he or I wanted to carry on partying every night we would have had a termination but we decided to change our lives a bit instead."
Fab!!! Grin

Cappucino · 24/04/2006 21:22

lol beansprout

'changing their lives a bit'

god I hope she's around in a year Grin

Dh is about as Guardian reading, supportive etc as it gets but even I (yes, even I!) have had to tread a pretty lonely path, most notably in the wee small hours. I'm the woman, biology dictates that I have to do all the hard bits and he is my husband, not my hostage. The deal in our house when ds was born was that I looked after ds and dh looked after me. Dh did lots but there is a limit to what the ones-with-the-nobs can really do.

Gingerbear · 24/04/2006 21:27

OMG, hope I haven't offended WMF, anteater, BITBBH, Doddycool,Bigaydad etc, just that I have chatted to hub more often.

erm...........

I'll get me coat..........

Cappucino · 24/04/2006 21:39

Cappucino · 24/04/2006 21:46

I fed a lamb

cod · 24/04/2006 21:46

hard core

NotQuiteCockney · 24/04/2006 22:14

Ah, I never went near lambs, but then I did miscarry a few times, which made me twitchy.

But even with that, I:

  • ate soft cheese
  • ate rare steak (loads actually)
  • drank a tiny bit (don't really like booze and am twitchy about it).
  • ate mussels and any other seafood that appealed.
Passionflower · 24/04/2006 22:50

DD3 is about 60% mussels I think cod. Grin

satine · 24/04/2006 23:00

Wow, what will NoodleKitKat's dh have to do for penance once the baby is born and she's like an extra from Night of the Living Dead with the feeding and lack of sleep? Grin

Passionflower · 24/04/2006 23:15

If I were him I'd me more worried about his role in the birth! Grin

Greensleeves · 24/04/2006 23:17

She'll probably have him sit on a spike and stick forks in his legs every time she has a contractions Grin

controlfreaky2 · 24/04/2006 23:19

controlfreaky2 · 24/04/2006 23:27

sorry noodly. carried away with thinking self amusing. wrongly. stick around.

suejonez · 24/04/2006 23:36

I was about to get really upset by this posting and do my outraged "I couldn't get pregnant after years of fertility treatment and 3 IVF's and I'd crawl over broken glass to get pregnant and all you can do is moan" blah blah blah....

Then as I read on it became more and more surreal and at the "She'll probably have him sit on a spike and stick forks in his legs every time she has a contraction", I now have to go lie down in a darkened room and do some deep breathing exercises to stop crying with laughter.

You should ADOPT - no giving up alcohol, pate or lambs (lambs?) of course it comes with other problems but at least you can get pissed on cocktails whilst you're dealing with them.

Night ladies, I'm off to bed in a much cheerier frame of mind...

controlfreaky2 · 24/04/2006 23:40
