7+5 and feel like hell - am I just a wimp?

I've been nauseous now all day every day for about two weeks and utterly exhausted. I have now had a headache for 2-3 days that won't shift.
I've been working this morning but I can't look at the screen anymore as my eyes are swimming and head thumping. I'm just about to try having a nap as I've got a work event on tonight 7 till 9pm.
Is pregnancy like this for everyone? I just want to give up now. But I feel like such a wimp because its not like I've even puked. I slept almost ALL weekend but still feel like I could stay in bed for a week.
I really don't think I can do this Sad - though obviously don't really have any choice now.

Not a wimp. Perfectly, horribly normal.

Join one on the antenatal clubs for support.

Congratulations!

One of! Gah to one handed typing!

You're not alone. I HATE the first bit of preg with all my being. I am aghast at those who don't even know they're pregnant or just feel a 'bit sicky'. I felt like death with both my pregnancies and, like you, beat myself up about not 'coping'.
Go to your GP if u need to and get signed off - failing that have a good old moan on here - and it really won't last forever (just feels like it).

wanderingalbatross · 28/01/2013 13:42

Not a wimp, the first trimester can be horrible. It normally gets better in the 2nd trimester though, it won't be like this all the way through.

Jojobump1986 · 28/01/2013 13:46

I was like this for the first 16(+) weeks of this pregnancy. Absolutely fine last time but could barely get out of bed with the nausea, dizziness & tiredness this time! It does get better. Once the baby arrives, if not before! Wink Just do whatever you can to take care of yourself. I found that all I could manage for about a week was small quantities of pretzels & 7up & that was after I'd rung the doctor & been prescribed pills! If you need to take sick leave then do it. There's no point in you making yourself feel even worse by soldiering on!

You can do this. Take care of yourself!

MrsVJDay · 28/01/2013 13:48

Don't worry, the 8 weeks point was the worst bit for me too. Got gradually better till at 11 weeks I asked for my scan early as I actually worried I wasn't pg anymore! (history of early mc so not entirely barking). When I was 7/8 weeks tho I was so tired that walking up the 4 stairs between our kitchen & living room would make me want to sit down and cry Blush.

Hope it gets better for you soon. Brew

photographerlady · 28/01/2013 14:09

aww hang in there, weeks 6-10 were awful for me. I was so light headed, nauseous and couldn't sleep then suddenly it eased and all has been well. Hope it passes soon

badguider · 28/01/2013 14:44

Well I just spent an hour shivering in my bed with pjs on then a big fleece and duvet and heating on... Sad

Still, now i feel a bit brighter and quite hungry which is good... i joined the relevant AN thread but most on there seem to be excited and pleased to be having twinges of nausea so I just wanted to see if anybody who has survived to the other side could sympathise... I know i have a very low resting heart rate naturally and low blood pressure and it just feels like my body is in shut-down... have my booking in appt on weds so will speak to the MW then.

badguider I'm only 4 weeks and I already feel rubbish. I'm exhausted all the time and often feel cold and shivery. only just started feeling a bit quesy but not too bad. weeing all the time but can't poo!"
trying not to complain though cos otherwise I'm over the moon!!Grin

nice to know I'm not alone though,my sis and SIL have both just had really easy smooth pregnancies so feeling like a wimp!!

fl0b0t · 28/01/2013 15:51

Hey Badguider- I know you from September thread! I am at home ill from work searching net mums for the magic answer that will make me feel amazing, or something better than utter utter utter shit. I've got two days away planned tomorrow and weds and then supposed to be in the office on thursday and the way I feel now I'm considering sacking it all off to stay in bed like I did most of today!

fl0b0t · 28/01/2013 15:57

Edit- oh and I'm only 6wks today. So even if by the grace of cheesecake it does tail off around 12wks, I've still got a WHOLE 6 TO GO! Minimum!

I'm so indecisive about going to the dr, telling work etc that I've just lay in bed. Not that it really helped unless I was actually asleep....

tigerKesha · 28/01/2013 16:37

Badguider. Your post makes me feel 'ok' about how am feeling
I am 7+3 today, haven't been sick yet but I feel extremely exhausted, dizzy and find it hard getting out of bed much as I have insomnia. I have a wee minimum of 2 times per hour. It's my 1st pregnancy, so I feel useless trying to post on any antenatal boards as most people seem like pros/happy troopers. Am such a wimp Hmm

badguider · 28/01/2013 17:27

sorry you're feeling bad tiger but i'm also glad that i'm not the only one... and you too flobot and roofio... thanks for the company in the 'feeling crap corner' Smile

I see the MW for booking in on weds so i guess i'll get an indication then if there's actually anything wrong with my iron levels or blood sugar but it seems like this is just the massively underplayed secret truth about early pregnancy..

I've asked people at the 12 week announcement if they're feeling ok and if it's been really hard and they've had a lot of sickness and they've always answered 'oh i'm fine'... Hmm really???

sundaesundae · 28/01/2013 17:33

People lie. People also forget. I think if people knew all the crap bits they wouldn't do it. You have bits which are ok and bits which are hard, it feels like it lasts forever, but it doesn't.

Also, 12 weeks is not a magic cut off point for stopping feeling crap, just a heads up!

Cheffie100 · 28/01/2013 17:44

Utterly empathise with how you feel . It is awful and I was exactly the same at this stage. It lasted till 9weeks and then I still felt grim but jot quite as bad. Travel sickness bands are amazing though- make you feel bit better- get some. After 12 weeks it got easier again and then after a small lull 16 weeks and I was feeling amazing.

I know this doesn't seem a great help as I know that feels the longest time. Keep looking after yourself though. Most people are ok after 12 weeks so I have everything crossed for you x

badguider · 28/01/2013 18:02

travel sickness bands - i did read that somewhere... will try to get some (and then spend all day at work trying to hide them Smile)

fl0b0t · 28/01/2013 18:18

Does sickness abate if you are actually sick? Even if it's just for a bit?
I've been avoiding being sick so far, but today the nausea is much worse and I think I might be!

fl0b0t · 28/01/2013 18:22

Ah. Seems it kindof does.....

Conanchensee · 28/01/2013 18:31

Yes, hang in there! Weeks 7-10 were by far the worse (even worse than being 10 days overdue with back problems!) for all 3 pregnancies for me and each time I've questioned the point of it, felt guilty about the effect on family and generally wanted to curl up and die. (and this time even wished for a miscarriage which I felt awful about!)

BUT it gets so much better and just remember, you get a beautiful baby at the end of it, it feels a long way off but I find the second trimester flies by. I wish I could remember this in the first trimester as I made it worse for myself each time by thinking I was being a wimp and lazy but feeling nauseous really is just plain grim. I'm now 22 weeks and feeling fine so I'd say just let yourself feel awful, milk any sympathy you get and compliment yourself on how tough you are going through this for your dp!

pictish · 28/01/2013 18:38

OP the first trimester of my pregnancies (particularly second and third) were the worst time for me. I felt very ill with chronic exhaustion and sickness....almost like I had the flu or something.
You're not a wimp. For some of us it's a terrible time.
